I'm way more intelligent than you. HG, to say this is pompous, elitist, offensive and presumptuous. I fall far closer to the likeness of davers and that other guy you are arguing with when it comes to my appreciation for music. I have the utmost respect for your passion for music, and your commitment to it. It just doesn't appeal to me like it does for you. I am not going to pretend to be too busy to commit to Jethro Tull, Woody Guthrie, John Fahey, or any of the other forefathers of what I consider my favortie style of music; I just don't want to. And perhaps I am missing out on some self actualization or reward from not doing so. But I'm quite happy in life, so I imagine I must get it somewhere else. So, does that make me less intelligent than you? You are a smart man, so I am certainly not going to argue the opposite. I am just going to say we have different passions; one of yours is music, and perhaps you presume that everyone on this board also shares that passion and should try to be equally versed in it. I can't say that I share that passion to the same level you do; that does not make me less intelligent. To compare it; I have seen you post your negative viewpoints concerning sports. I would consider to have a passion for sports, something you obviously do not share. I do not consider sports to simply be a battle of brawn...there is a huge strategical component to it, and this is the aspect I enjoy the most. There is a lot of intelligent things going on in athletics, and certainly some intelligent people who have written endless novels and data on strategy. Defensive schemes in basketball - you see it as five guys trying to cover five other guys. I see rotations, hedges, low-percentage shots, help defence, etc... Am I more intelligent because I can see the light in sports that you cannot? Do I pity you for glossing over it instead of being active in the community? P.S. Great effort with the two posts though. I agree with a lot of what you said. And I didn't really want to start an argument with you, but the quality of them deserved my effort.

Oooooooookay....
Uh, so on the subject of the thread:
Deerhunter The Radio Dept Bright Eyes Washed Out Beach House Iron & Wine Yeasayer Gayngs Ratatat The Thermals
I'm very excited about Deerhunter. They rocked my world at MFNW years ago and I've become a huge fan since, but keep missing their PDX shows. For me, they are a headliner.
Radio Dept - never seen them, but love their stuff Washed out - ditto The Thermals (tempting to skip since they are local, but sure bet for a good show)
I'm definitely more excited for the undercard, but great lineup all around. Will probably spend more time in the dance tent than I have in previous years.

I dig it B-Rad. Of course I was being pompous. I believe in something Roald Dahl wrote in Matilda. To paraphrase, if you are going to do something you don't want questioned, you have to do it in a larger-than-life way. For better or worse I think the posturing and condescension are an important part of how I present my arguments.
Maybe that undermines what I am trying to say sometimes, but especially as an invisible internet man being larger than life at least causes people to really engage with the conversation instead of just glossing ober it and dismissing it.

I'd hate to argue with you IRL, HG...I'd get my butt kicked. Perhaps if I wasn't spending too much time chasing after balls and more time reading I would have been advised by Mr Dahl (and considered his viewpoint) as you have.

I believe in something Roald Dahl wrote in Matilda. in before Catsquatch tells everybody she was literally just talking about Roald Dahl's Matilda! Its true! Stampa disposed of our recently delivered phone book (in which I quoted The Jerk at the time of the delivery), but when he tossed it, I reminded him that Miss Trunchbull was capable of ripping a phone book in half. He had no clue what I was talking about.

HG you are making it very difficult to have any sort of discussion when go lump me in with 'kids these days that only download singles and listen to top 40'. I know you said you knew you were making generalizations, but that doesnt make it any easier to argue.
Ok I feel like the thread has kinda moved past this (and I was only gone 4 hours!) but seriously, can you tell me what is wrong with my listening to new music method?
You praised geno for listening to the most popular album 10 times but shit on myself and others for picking a few songs from different albums and giving them all a few listens.
I know that albums as a whole are better generally. But sometimes different albums have different styles, and by limiting yourself to 1 album you might miss something about the band you might have liked. My way you get a taste of the band throughout the years. Honnestly, I want to know whats wrong with that.
And for the record, I pay for music. I'll admit not every song in my library of music has been purchased, but I have two 5 foot CD towers full of CDs, half of which were purchased in the last 2-3 years. I have also given itunes probably 400 bucks or so.
Anyway, please stop arguing about 'kids these days'. I dont think most of your super generalized argument applies to anyone on this forum, so its damn hard for any of us 'kids' to reply.

That sounds much more fun than the other version. And there is a higher likelihood of sandwiches. Which is obviously a huge bonus.

Davers you are a creepy motherfucker. Anyway maybe the reason I am not addressing your points more succinctly is that it is not very clear what your stance is.
