I'm a pretty big fan, but who the fuck is this band's actual demographic? The Sylvan Esso show two days prior isn't sold out and is only $14 more, so it's not like the Cigarettes After Sex show is some crazy bargain. Do they have an alt rock radio hit I don't know about? No, it's just too ~vibey~ to ignore. All the youth want to smoke and listen to this with their partner wrapped up around them.

A couple of tour announcements this morning rule out potential Thing headliners. Interesting that these acts will be in the area during the same time period, so I wasn't far off. Playing Woodland Park Zoo 8/23. Playing White River Amphitheater 8/20, Ouch! Bummer on these two. Didn't David Byrne play Paramount like a day after Sasquatch back in 2018? Not expecting anything like that to happen, but sometimes oddities occur.

Big bummer on those two. Almost want to say that Woodland Park is a small enough capacity that they could still do Thing and that White River is enough of a pain...but unlikely. Also rampantly speculating Momma will play. They don't hit Oregon or WA on their tour and are open after July. They kind of fit the Wet Leg vibe of last year, minus a big hit single.

Yeah, but that was such a unique example where tickets for neither the festival nor that show were affected. Thing seems still to small and new to not book artists with other local dates at the same time.

So of that list, I think the most likely options are Alvvays and the Beths. Alvvays are playing Beach Road Weekend in Martha's Vineyard the same weekend. Doesn't rule them out, but would be a lot of travel. Alvvays have new dates that keep them in the Northeast that whole weekend. The Beths are supporting the DCfC/Postal Service tour in Seattle in October. Doesn't necessarily rule them out, but my ideas are dropping like flies! Hopefully we get some news later this morning.

Youth Lagoon hasn't announced any dates to go along with his comeback album yet, but he'd fit. Also realized I forgot to mention Run the Jewels as a possibility. They haven't played Seattle since opening for Lorde in 2018. They were supposed to come through with Rage, but all those shows have now been cancelled after a couple of reschedulings. They only have one upcoming show, and I think I saw a rumor Killer Mike was returning to solo music this summer, so they might not even be a possibility, but I wanted to throw them out there. Their shows rock hard.

Black Midi are skipping the West Coast on their tour and are free after July

I had hoped we would have heard from Thing today. Last year, Thing announced their return on the Wednesday before unveiling the lineup on Tuesday morning. They already announced their return, but tomorrow will be two weeks since then, and there hasn't been a peep! If we don't hear from them by 10am tomorrow, we probably won't hear from them until next week. Come on AZ, my summer calendar is already filling up! Do you think they didn't want to get overshadowed by CHBP's announcement? I would think their audiences don't overlap much these days. Just a professional courtesy not to announce as well? There have just been so many show and festival announcements already that I'd think Thing would want to go on sale before folks spend through their budgets.

Nothing of substance to add, but it definitely feels weirder the further into March we get. Understandable with the Zoo Tunes/CHBP/etc announcements that they'd want to wait a bit. Putting out willpower in to the universe we hear something this week or the next!

I'm no festival coordinator, but it strikes me as odd to delay the announcement of even the dates for so long. Surely you want people to block out time for your event as soon as possible? Given the lengthy delay in announcement, I wonder if they had something go awry and had to think about going from a 3-day back to a 2-day fest....

Odd that the socials haven't posted this, but I can confirm that it's August 25-27. I'd say the general trend of large scale events that I've worked on/volunteered with is that things may not be super focused intentional and organized behind the scenes. Is what it is, I'd guess the answer is as mundane as someone saying "huh this date is pretty clear of competition let's announce then."

Or, fingers crossed, there's a tour announcement tomorrow morning that isn't on our radar! How are we feeling going into tomorrow's announcement? Still thinking Cigarettes After Sex / Sylvan Esso / Fleet Foxes? Is there someone I'm missing?

Might be a bit greedy, but summarizing this thread I'd pitch Pixies/CAS/Run the Jewels Headlining Sylvan Esso/Fleet Foxes/ Subheadlining In general I'm feeling an out of left field headliner and a Hip Hop headliner. La Fonda, AJ Suede, Monsterwatch, Hell Baby for local gets. Who Is She? For the clout. This year looks pretty all over the place for festivals. Not really seeing the same 20 bands playing every single lineup. Maybe the pandemic has just made me forget how these things work. See you goblins in the morning !!

To be honest it would probably take me about 20 minutes to figure out how to post an image on these forums. In a few we can all confirm I'm not getting pranked. Looks like KEXP dad fest returns. I'll happily pedal my bike out to PT for this one
