Officially back in business! I'll try to keep this updated the way we used to do it for Sasquatch! Rumored for THINGFleet Foxes ( tour dates: tour currently ends 8/24 in Portland)

Support isn't announced for Fleet Foxes' Portland show yet, but Uwade is supporting their previous show. If she continues up the coast with them, it'd make sense for her to play Thing as well. However, Suki Waterhouse supported Father John Misty on his tour around Thing, including a show at Pioneer Square in Portland, yet didn't play Thing. So maybe it means nothing. EDIT: According to Pitchfork, Uwade is supporting the Portland show.

Beach House, Fleet Foxes, and Hip Hop artist if this is a 3 Day Deal.
Book it.
Pulp is touring through July with no North America dates. I could see Desert Daze or Thing snagging them.

When the Swell Season first announced their tour, they announced a show in Woodinville on 8/23. Now, their website lists the same date 8/23 as Seattle WA venue TBA. I'm not 100% sold because their website also lists venues in Grand Rapids and Salt Lake City as TBA, but fishy that the city would change from the original announcement.Forget about this. 8/23 is a Wednesday, and this thing is likely 8/25-27. Sorry, I got too speculation happy.

Sylvan Esso is just about confirmed. Playing BC on the 25th and then Bend on the 27th. Put them down for the 26th and get ready to dance!

I speculated about this when they announced the tour last month. I'm still slightly skeptical because that would be 4 shows in 4 nights, but they're starting their European tour with 4 shows in 4 nights and ending their North American tour with 4 shows in 4 nights, so it's not out of the question. The opener for this tour, Indigo De Souza, would seem like an obvious fit to play Thing if Sylvan Esso is, but she's on the Day In Day Out lineup, so I wouldn't expect her to play both festivals.

So of that list, I think the most likely options are Alvvays and the Beths. Alvvays are playing Beach Road Weekend in Martha's Vineyard the same weekend. Doesn't rule them out, but would be a lot of travel.

Pulp is touring through July with no North America dates. I could see Desert Daze or Thing snagging them. Pulp would be awesome, but VERY surprising. I saw them at The Warfield on their 2012 reunion tour, and they fucking ruled. Now that Day In Day Out has been announced without some artists that I think could have played both festivals, I have a few ideas: I'm surprised the Flaming Lips haven't announced any Seattle or Portland shows for their An Evening With the Flaming Lips shows nor their Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots shows. They're about to play Vancouver and then skip down to Nevada. I can't believe boygenius wouldn't play the Pacific Northwest. Phoebe Bridgers alone played Marymoor Park and Edgefield during THING last year, and I think she sold out those shows. So maybe they're too big? Not sure, but it would be wild if they skipped this market. Steve Lacy, who is a co-headliner on those Re:Set shows, just played some shows through here, so maybe they've been waiting to announce more Re:Set dates until after his tour. My last idea is Pixies. I have a hard time gauging their current popularity. They're playing mostly theaters on their North American spring tour, and nothing northwest of Oakland, with no dates in the Pacific Northwest. They haven't played Seattle since their tour with Weezer in 2018. They seem too big to me and would probably be the biggest name on the poster, but I'm surprised they don't yet have PNW dates. Ultimately, going into lineup announcement last year, I think we only knew Modest Mouse as a possible headliner based on tour dates. This year, it seems like Fleet Foxes and Sylvan Esso will be there (although, not necessarily headlining). Jungle was a complete surprise to me, and they played Paramount Theatre and Crystal Ballroom the previous fall. Their set was great! Hopefully Zacks has a surprise up his sleeve.

The Revivalists and Band of Horses don't play Seattle on their co-headlining tour. The Revivalists play Troutdale on 9/2, but without Band of Horses. I assume that means they're going to play Bumbershoot that weekend. But since Band of Horses aren't on that show for some reason, maybe they're still a possibility?

Cigarettes After Sex looks likely but a little odd. They are doing Portland and Vancouver on the 26th and 27th. Skipping Seattle but would need to be at Thing on the 25th and seems strange to do Thing, Portland, then Vancouver.

Port Angeles > Portland > Vancouver isn't as weird of routing as it sounds.

Cigarettes After Sex are a band like Rainbow Kitten Surprise whom I've never given the time of day because their name is so stupid to me. I don't think I even listened to them before they played Sasquatch 2017. And I've clearly underestimated their popularity if they're headlining Edgefield! Are they a Thing headliner? So Cigarettes After Sex, Sylvan Esso, Fleet Foxes top 3? Maybe not because if CAS has to play 8/25 and Sylvan Esso has to play 8/26, it'd be weird for Fleet Foxes to take two days off after their show 8/24 in Portland.

Oof, I promise that like Fleet Foxes but that would be the snooziest group of headliners in 2023.

Cigarettes After Sex are always way bigger than I imagine. I don't think Sylvan Esso is at headliner level though. Could see CAS on 8/25 with Fleet Foxes on 8/26 and Sylvan Esso either right before or after them.

Wow, that Cigarettes After Sex Edgefield show is already sold out! So they're definitely headlining Thing. I've listened to them this weekend, and I dig 'em, but I'm still baffled by their popularity. Caught me completely off guard.

I've listened to them this weekend, and I dig 'em, but I'm still baffled by their popularity. Caught me completely off guard. This is wild revelation to me. I knew their streaming numbers were weirdly high, but selling out Edgefield? They strike me as a 1k capacity theater band at most. Damn. I'm a pretty big fan, but who the fuck is this band's actual demographic?

I'm a pretty big fan, but who the fuck is this band's actual demographic? The Sylvan Esso show two days prior isn't sold out and is only $14 more, so it's not like the Cigarettes After Sex show is some crazy bargain. Do they have an alt rock radio hit I don't know about?

A couple of tour announcements this morning rule out potential Thing headliners. Interesting that these acts will be in the area during the same time period, so I wasn't far off. Playing Woodland Park Zoo 8/23. Playing White River Amphitheater 8/20,
