We're seeing lineups these days that seem to be influenced and ordered by streaming numbers more than anything else (I'm looking at you, Coachella), so I thought it would be interesting to see what the Sasquatch lineup would look like if it were ordered by monthly Spotify listeners. There are definitely a few names that appear to be in surprisingly high or low positions. I've never heard Snakehips' music, and I've never even heard of Aquilo before, so those two surprised me more than anything else. What are your thoughts?
INB4 "OMG WTF David Byrne gets no love!"
Also yes, I'm having a particularly do-nothing type of Sunday.

I feel like what makes Vince Staples and Snakehips top the list is that they’re really big in doing collaborations with other big artists because you get so much more attention from different fan bases by doing that

Agreed. If you can get even just one track with some crossover appeal into top 40 territory you can end up with some really interestingly skewed stats. I don't know what video game or TV commercial picked up on Aquilo, but they have one song with over 21 million streams.

OMG WTF David Byrne gets no love!
Did you count a Talking Heads in his numbers or just his solo stuff?

It should be no surprise that then hip hop and pop artists top the chart. Hip hop specifically is the number one listened to genre and Vince Staples pre-Big Fish Theory was a typical rapper.
These artists also benefit from being feel-good artists in my opinion. Nobody is listening to The National blaring with their friends, meanwhile All My Friends ft. Opportunity the Rapper was easily on one of my summer party playlists a couple years back.

Most people who seek out his material are going to go for Talking Heads. I'll edit the list since it's a unique situation with him. EDIT: Fixed. That makes a lot more sense. Good call Pancakes.

Totally, and it has to be taken into account how many people casually throw on hip hop and pop playlists instead of seeking out individual artists/albums/songs. Before Tash Sultana's song Jungle got picked up by every music blog on the internet I bet her monthly listens were hovering somewhere in the low to mid thousands. It does go to show how so many flash in the pan artists can jump onto a lineup out of nowhere one year and then disappear the following years. I'm not using Tash as an example, but there are similar stories.

Also how the fuck did Grizzly Bear get so high? Did they do a movie soundtrack or something? Two Weeks was on the first episode of Skins in the UK and from there it’s been kind of a cult indie hit, Gambino even rapped over the best. Not that you don’t know the acclaim of that track, but I would bet that 500-700k of their listens are that song alone.

jj, as in the weird dreampop project jj? That's the one! They got BNM'd, opened for The xx when I saw them in 2010, and then poofed into nothing like four years ago.

I haven't watched Skins since it ended so I probably just forgot. The only band I remember vividly being on that show was Crystal Castles.

I think they're still around in one way or another, but they were horrifically inconsistent. A few of their singles were some of the prettiest damm songs ever, while others ranged from head scratchers to just plain cringe-worthy. I sure would have liked to see them live though.

Born Ruffians got some significant love from the series as well. Honestly the soundtrack was on point for an early 20’s indie newb like me. Artists like Joey Purp from last year are a good example of “has one song go big then poofs into obscurity.” Not like I’m a definitive guide of artists bound for obscurity, but I don’t see any artists on here whose stock will probably plummet after this year. I would imagine most will keep their stock or climb in 2018.

It's been really fun watching those kids grow up and take on different acting roles. Game of Thrones has/had at least two of them.
