Slowdive
Slowdive are an English rock band that formed in Reading, Berkshire in 1989. The band consists of Rachel Goswell on vocals and guitar, Simon Scott on drums, Neil Halstead on vocals and guitar, Nick Chaplin on bass and Christian Savill on guitar.
Discography Just For a Day (1991) Souvlaki (1993) Pygmalion (1995) Slowdive (2017) Nice article on the bands comeback. www.theguardian.com/music/2017/mar/30/the-unlikely-renaissance-of-slowdive-shoegaze-became-the-genre-of-ridicule A recent performance - can't wait to see them close out the Bigfoot.
A recent visit to KEXP
Another new band for me thanks to Sasquatch and the board... and I really dig on the fact that they take their name from a Siouxsie and the Banshees song. Kinda runs a thread back through the Cure, Talking Heads, and few other bands of my youth. Can't wait to do some bouncing around at this show.
Git yer head down to the ground Shake it all around a dirty sound. Git yer knees into yer face And see if you can race real slow Now ya jump back like a hound Emit a howling sound Dig those limbs into the floor! And holler out for more! And ya revel in the dips When yer backbone slips Takin' honeysuckle sips From yer rollin' hips It shifts and shifts It's a Slow Dive!

Ahh I was wondering who was going to do this writeup! Fantastic job as always, and I would just add that if ya’ll miss this band you are denying yourself a piece of music history. Their wall of sound is only rivaled by My Bloody Valentine, and honestly I think they roll even harder. You will never attend a show that will hit you as hard emotionally and physically this Squatch unless you’re TheNationalSquatch like chubbystackz

I kind of feel like Slowdive is going to be this year's M83 for me. I haven't really sat down and absorbed their albums yet, but it feels like that kind of music that will have a very physical effect live. I really hope they get one of the late night sets to really take advantage of the full darkness.

Based on their billing, I don't think they'd sub the main. They are the 14th name on the poster, which is just about right for the late night Bigfoot set.

This is also the first shoegaze band to play Sasquatch, right? I can't think of any others aside from Deafheaven and I'm not sure if I'd count them.

Slowdive are so much better than M83.
#1 show of 2017.
Bring an extra pair of pants, ‘cause you gonna poop ‘em.

M83 got famous for music that I wouldn’t really classify as being shoegaze. I know that’s their root, but I feel like they strayed a lot from that sound.

Slowdive and M83 shouldn't be compared. That being said, I have only heard one Slowdive album. I thought it was cool enough but it was too damn long (s/t). I need to hear their past records still but I already know this is a set that cannot be missed.
PS I am not hating on M83. I love M83. Just totally different.

Well yeah but they both fall into the shoegaze genre. Definitely listen to their older stuff though. Souvlaki is one of the best shoegaze albums ever created.

Old M83 is so different from new M83. I guess I should keep my Slowdive judgements to myself until I hear explore the past. Not negative judgments or anything but I shouldn't pigeonhole anyone on one record. I am going to buy Souvlaki in the coming weeks.

Wasn’t M83 founded as a duo and then one guy left? I feel like once Anthony was the only one with creative control, that’s when they started leaning more into pop.

I thought it was cool enough but it was too damn long (s/t). Haha what? 45 minutes isn't that long. Lol I had to check if that was right. I guess it felt long? Haha. You are right 45 minutes is not long. I was listening to it while brewing so maybe time was moving slow for me. I retract my complaint
