Now that I've had a couple days to meditate on le lineup, I'm still amazed we managed to dodge a Post Malone/Halsey/Logic type name on this bill. I mean, every festival panders to particular demographics, but i'm loving how strongly this lineup caters to my (our?) taste, and how it steers clear of teenybopper shit like the above while still feeling very relevant and in-tune with the current musical landscape (loads of up and comers on this one).
I could see why some might be unimpressed with the headliners, given that MM, the National and Bonny have all headlined in the (recent) past...but the way I see it, these are bands that are integral to Sasquatch's DNA. TN and BI both are coming off of some of the strongest material of their respective careers (might get new Iver this year too) and while Mr. Brock's star has dimmed in these past few years, he too should be releasing new music this year, and hopefully can deliver on a headlining set in his backyard. Oh, and I'll take the L for guessing Modest would play a subhead slot...shoulda known LOL.
A more apt critique of the top line is, as others have mentioned, the lack of a female presence. I'm as big a fan of sadsack white guy rock as you'll meet, but it does seam odd to not have one of the many powerhouse ladies of rock up there, given that S! has traditionally been better than most in uplifting women artists. That said, some of my absolute favorite female musicians and frontwomen-led bands are on the roster, so go figure.
The "exclusives" situation is interesting. While there isn't something along the lines of Chella's Jamiroquai or Chic, there is TV on the Radio and Explosions in the Sky, both of whom have pretty quiet 2018 schedules thus far. Heres hoping this is indicative of new material on their part as well, cuz they're two of my all-time favorites. The other one to consider is the inimitable Ms. Neko Case of course, who is right up there with the National and MM as a Sasquatch lifer.
It's interesting to me how even the rap acts follow the Bandsquatch motif - Paak's got his Free Nationals with him, and Tyler is touring with some musicians as well I think? Anyone who saw the legendary Roots Crew in 2012 knows how much impact a backing band can have on a hip hop show...though honestly Vinny Stapes might just steal the show, cuz he does that.
My only other critique really is the lack of a token heavy act. PUP and Japandroids are fun though, and Slowdive can get a lot (a LOT) heavier and louder in person. Electronic-wise, I'll take the lack of Oneohtrix Point Never given that we got JLIN.
Overall, it's a special one this year. It's very much a return to form - some might say too much, but even a cursory glance over the lineup reveals a lot of exciting new artists who are coming to the Gorge for the first time. That mission statement of honouring the roots of the festival while showcasing rising stars really rings true, for me. Can't wait to get back to my happy place.

Margo Price is a nice discovery. Good shitkicking honky-tonk via Third Man Records.

Tell me about it. I fully expected one of them on the second line and we got Ray Lomant-howeveryouspellit instead. I'll take that trade any day of the week. Given their brief tour, some recent updates on their website, and the fact they they said they had the follow up to Strangers pretty much ready to go when it came out, I fully expect we'll see a new MM album before summer. According to one of our "leakers" St Vincent was on the lineup in December, but now she's not. I think that's the big female gap at the top of the poster. I'm interested to see if they do anything about that with late adds.

I really enjoyed reading it and agree with just about all of it. Headliners are an interesting beast. At many festivals it's almost implied that once someone gets promoted to headliner status they can't play the festival again for years and years, but bands that exist on lower lines can return at an almost every other year rate. I'll take just about every opportunity I can get to see Bon Iver and The National, so although it might take away from the wow factor by booking them again so soon, I'm totally happy to have them back on my favorite stage on earth.

I'm interested to see if they do anything about that with late adds. I do wonder if she was booked and then it fell apart. There were more than a few sources hinting at her being there. I don't expect her to be a late add, but it would definitely be a great surprise!

I know she did the Saturday-Sunday Boston-Gorge turnaround in 2015, but it can't be easy. She might have signed on thinking she could do it again, but then she or her tour manager decided against it after the fact.

This was the message I got re: SV from someone who has since turned out to be a credible source.
I don't really expect her to be a late add, but I'm curious to see who they do add or if she was already replaced before the lineup was announced.

If St Vincent is a late add I won't be able to contain myself

Luckily the lineup is amazing enough already I won't be disappointed if she isn't

It’s also possible she was replaced before the lineup came out, so I wouldn’t necessarily count on a big name being added.

HI I'M EXCITED FOR THIS jai wolf is one of the most fun dance parties I've been to (though this song is mellow). My EDM listening has waned in recent years but I almost always have some Jai Wolf in my rotation. I've seen him 3 times in both fest and non-fest settings and I've always been impressed, lots of energy and great visuals. I met him after one of the shows and he was so humble and grateful and seems to continue that now-- great dude. Exact same! He is the best all around

I looked at last year's schedule and it looked like the three headliners played mostly unopposed. Is that always the case? Modest Mouse don't seem much bigger than the following 7 names on the poster, seems like kind of a waste of time to not have anyone else on.

That was a one year deal, mostly due to them booking far fewer artists than normal. This year is back to a full lineup, so expect conflicts. Some of them will be quite painful.

Who was at Vulfpeck last year? That set kind of changed my life. That set was truly something else. I still can’t believe they all got us singing Summer Lovin.

Not sure what your history is with Sasquatch so I won't be an anus about this response; which is no. Last year should be expunged from the record books of ever even existing and should be concluded a weekend dedicated to LCD Soundsystem. They booked a half-assed lineup and thus ran no opposition during the headliners. Expect making tough decisions this year over which artists you'll see and remember that no matter who you choose you've made the right answer because all these artists are awesome.
