I was on the hill at first, but had to move up because I couldn't hear anything except for the booming vocals. Still couldn't hear much as I got closer.
And did anyone notice that none of the headliners played an encore? That's not usually the case, is it?
I got set lists from both The National and QOSTA and the both skipped songs that were supposed to be played. Not to mention that Queens left the stage 20 minutes early and still left a song or two off, one of which was Faireweather Friends dammit. But my God, they were amazing!
The lack of encores was definitely noticed. I was really looking forward to fair weather friends too. Sound for a The National was great on the left terrace area just below the path.
Friday: Iska Dhaaf -> Kithkin -> Lia...De La Soul --> lounged on the hill while Cage The Elephant/Naked And Famous played --> went down to the front for Foals --> Phantogram --> Mogwai --> Outkast --> Die Antwoord
Saturday: New Lungs --> Augustines --> Hobosexual --> The Dodos --> First Aid Kit --> Sol --> Deafheaven --> Sandrider
Sunday: Tacocat --> Brody Dalle --> chune-Yards --> Black Joe Lewis --> Elbow --> The Flavr Blue --> Haim --> Rodriguez --> Queens Of The Stone Age --> Major Lazer
My favorites sets were Sandrider, Queens Of The Stone Age, Deafheaven, Foals, Mogwai, Outkast, New Lungs and Tacocat. Eric Andre was right in the pit for Deafheaven. He was going nuts. Sandrider was fucking excellent and I got to meet BlackSmile so that was radical. I have bruises all up my torso from getting slammed into the front of the Narwhal stage. Outkast was so much fun. Hit after hit after hit. QOTSA sounded great but I echo the disappointment with how short it was. Jon Theodore sure can drum though...holy shit. I never saw him play with The Mars Volta live so that was pretty amazing.
3x also, I hope to fuck they move Sasquatch back to Saturday, Sunday, Monday next year so we don't have to battle the Memorial Day traffic heading back to Seattle. The traffic was insane, by far the worst I've seen in 6 drives.
I didn't think traffic was that bad coming back. I also left the campsite at 8am. Why does no one take the right lane in Washington? Are they strictly for trucks?
Driving back to Nevada was smooth sailing for us, but the other lanes going North looked brutally long.
Great weekend though. Banks, Sol, Tycho, and De La Soul were all really good surprises. They all brought the party and got the crowd really amped. Gessafelstein was a let down though. Maybe I just hyped it up too much in my mind, but it wasn't as intense or dark as I was expecting.
Boys Noize, Outkast, MIA, Kid Cudi, and Foster the People were my favorite sets of the weekend. Geez... talk about gorgeous weather too.
