Arcade Fire was on SNL going for some kind of disco mariachi thing and it was ridiculous.

+1 for Gogol Bordelo, Meat Puppets, The Dead Milkmen, Fuck Buttons, and Jon Hopkins.
The Devil Makes Three have a new album coming out at the end of this month and they would be great in a bluegrass-y get drunk in the afternoon and dance in the grass at the Yeti stage type slot. Pine Box Boys would also be great in that regard.
Also, there's this little band from LA called Tool that should have an album out next spring...

First timersRepeat offendersAnimal Collective Battles Deerhoof Deerhunter Definite yes to all of these. I third the motions. I would also accept Panda Bear. I think Chvrches are a pretty safe bet to be a back-to-backer, they're only getting more popular. Also wouldn't be surprised by: Sleigh Bells Beach House Waaves I'm pretty interested in the potential developments, if any, for the hip-hop and metal contingents of the festival. For the belt-sander (why is that a , again?), I just wonder how heavy Snacks is willing to go...I have a recurrent wet dream of Wolves in the Throne Room playing a nighttime slot at the Gorge, but that's fantasy. Deafheaven might be a viable option...Big Business are from Seattle and have a new record out in the fall. As for the former...I also have a recurrent nightmare of Macklemore passing the mediocre-rap-headliner torch to Drake for 2014. I'm sure it's just nerves. Kendrick will probably get a fairly high slot at Coachella...so that leaves his relationship to the Squatch questionable. Run the Jewels would make up for the lack of El-p/Killer Mike crossover at 2013. Flatbush Zombies and Action Bronson could be smaller acts. Anyway, guess I should stop now. It's only October, can only spew so many names on a page.

If more metal is booked I could see them getting Mastodon or Baroness. There are some great more extreme metal bands from the PNW such as Wolves in the Throne Room, but I can't see them going that heavy. If they were open to something like that, I would hope for a band like YOB or Agalloch as well.
As far as hip hop, I'd like to see Zion I (with Amp Live) and Atmosphere. I saw Atmosphere on their Summer tour, and they surprised me because I always found their recorded music to be a little boring. I even found myself recognizing songs and lyrics that I have barely listened to.

If more metal is booked I could see them getting Mastodon or Baroness. Kylessa could also fill that slot well. They just put out a great new album this year and should still be touring off it next summer. As far as hiphop acts, I think Lupe Fiasco would make an awesome Sasquatch set. I'm not sure what Talib Kweli is up to these days, but he would fit in nicely too.

It's well documented that I don't care for The Arcade Fires, but that SNL shit was fucking idiotic.
KEY POINTS:
1.) Disco is dead, regardless of what Daft Punk says.
2.) Give the silly face paint back to Empire of the Sun. You are all still profoundly unattractive people.
3.) The timer on your inevitable Pitchfork backlash is about to wind down.

I know they made small strides in booking metal and rap last year but booking Drake and Deafheaven would be a pretty massive shift.
That said, it's a shift I fully support.

For the record, I would never expect Sasquatch to book a black metal band. No matter how many hipsters like them.

That's just, like, your opinion, man. 2.) Being unattractive is certainly a profound indicator of musical talent! Also! I DECLARE A MONOPOLY ON FACE PAINT! 3.) Pitchfork has been too busy drowning in its own backlash (since 2006) to provide any relevant music commentary. TL;DR clinteastwood.jpg

To me, that entire performance, face paint included is all blatantly ripped off (or influenced by their producer ) from LCD...

The fact that they all look like badly-sewn rag dolls has nothing to do with how terrible their music is. It only has to do with how silly they look when they paint black bars across their eyes. I said it best years ago: Arcade Fire is lowest common denominator shit. They're the Steven Spielberg of "indie rock": they manipulate people's emotions through a sense of nostalgia, but it is completely hollow. It frustrates me that something so desperately milquetoast is, like, the biggest thing in the world right now, although I'd wager every cent I have on them going the U2 route as opposed to the Radiohead route: forever sanding the edges down further, broadening the nature of their appeal until they break the perimeter and become another Top 40 Adult Contemporary behemoth. 'Scrubs' montage. Super Bowl Halftime. Poignant scene at end of new Ron Howard film. Mark my words.

3.) Pitchfork has been too busy drowning in its own backlash (since 2006) to provide any relevant music commentary. There are innumerable valid criticisms of Pitchfork but denying their relevancy is just silly. Pea was joking on the last page about Deafheaven but the sentiment in general is completely serious, bands get booked for festivals solely because they got support on Pitchfork.
