Arcade Fire played their finale in the crowd with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Old school style. There weren't many of us left to see it.

Im alive. Another amazing weekend down in the desert. Initial thoughts: -Outkast was dog shit. Can't begin to explain how disappointing that was. Looks like this summer is all about cashing them cheques for Andre. At least Big Boi brought it. The Future guest spot might have been the worst 15 minutes of the weekend. -Arcade Fire was amazing. Oh wow, a band that actually kept playing after their allowed time. -Busta Fuckin Rhymes. Dude absolutely destroyed it during Girl Talk. Asap Rocky during Skrillex and Gwen Stefani during Pharell. -Chromeo was phenomenal as expected. The Knife were dumb as hell. As expected. -Future Islands, Capital Cities, Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Kid Cudi, CHVRCHES, Trombone Shorty and the preservation hall band were some of the other highlights Can you elaborate on The Knife being dumb as hell? I didn't catch the live steam and never seen them live but I've never heard anything negative about their live performances.

Man, I don't know how I feel about their live show cause I would need to see it to really have an opinion but how have you not heard anything negative? It's a lip-synced jazzercise routine...

Chances are most of the top 100 hits you get are about the Knife being pathetic live on their recent tour. Lift the rock, push it out of your way. I know it's heavy.

The Pet Shop Boys and Motorhead were the best things I saw all weekend. The Pet Shop Boys took me on a journey where I couldn't stop dancing and Motorhead had me standing there with my jaw on the floor (when I wasn't playing the hell out of the air guitar or air drums). Don't expect much from Lemmy but the guitarist is amazing and that was likely the most impressive drumming I have ever seen. Oh, and Slash played like half the set with them.
Both sets were greatly helped by the fact they were in a very uncrowded tent and everyone there was there to see them. Two of the best crowds of the weekend. Total opposite from NMH where half way through the set a constant stream of teenage girls started pushing to the front for a good spot at Lama del Ray. Kinda ruined the end of the set and I almost threw an elbow or two.
I only saw 16 full/ mostly full sets because of the 'ahh, there's always weekend 2' mentality, but I feel like I did fairly well staying until every stage was empty every night.
Outkast was ok, but I was pretty bitter that Andre mentions Prince is backstage halfway through the set and then Prince is nowhere to be seen.
Now on to weekend 2. I might die.

If you're going this weekend, get there early on Sunday and check out Bo Ningen. The clarity from this video gives you a good idea of their sound, but doesn't capture how abrasively loud and awesome they were.

Holy shit dude, I had such a fun fucking weekend. I'm not even having festival depression (well...I shed a couple of tears in LAX but I'm pretty sure that was just pure exhaustion). Honestly, I've been in a weird place for a bit now and everything just worked out so perfectly and rustled my jimmies in such an amazing way and it was so direly needed. I haven't decompressed yet enough to be able to coherently wrap it up yet, but damn. SO much good music and so much goddamn love for the crazy little family we've put together.

Jesus, and he did 'Get Real Paid' in Santa Barbara a couple of days before. I haven't seen Beck perform anything off of Midnite Vultures since the actual tour for Midnite Vultures. That is a huge deal.
