Maybe I'm just kicking the can around on some of these, but I strongly feel "County Line" by Cass McCombs is shit compared to "A Knock Upon The Door," which would probably make my top ten. Honestly, I think "County Line" is up there exclusively because it's the first track and the one I listened to most often. Cass McCombs is so dense, it takes commitment to make any one of his tracks your favorite. But I'll check out that one.

First, I should say I grabbed my headphones when I saw your list, so I thank you for that. I didn't really think I would disagree with you as much as I am so far. I like the first Iron & Wine selection you pointed out, but really don't like the second. My favoritre is still "Walking Far From Home." I would actually say you're agreeing with me a remarkable amount

Dude, that song is so amazing. Word. I don't know if like that one, "Party" or "Love on Top" the best, but holy shit that album is awesome.

Song of the year for me goes to The Strokes - Under the Cover of Darkness, or Lupe Fiasco - Show Goes On.
Both albums ended up being pretty average, but they totally killed it with those songs.
EDIT: Put Beth/Rest up there too...so good

I know Gramma would agree with you about "French Exit" being the best Antlers song. I'm not too keen on "I Don't Want To Love" but "Putting The Dog To Sleep" is awesome. My favorite is still "Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out." I might be alone on that one. Not alone.

While I haven't compiled my list yet, I know for sure that my song of the year is Midnight City by M83. Don't fucking argue with me about it. It's my opinion, y'all. I think it's one of the catchiest songs written in the past decade.

I think it's one of the catchiest songs written in the past decade. Yeah, picking two M83 songs which aren't "Midnight City" is a big miss. I hadn't got to this one yet. I'm so terrible with song titles, I have to relisten to all of these to remember if they were my favorites, or which were.

I've always been terrible with song titles and it's always pissed people off.
"I don't fucking know the title! #2 man! #2!"

Yup, I saw Drew's list, and thought, "which one of those M83 songs is number two?"

Here's the first draft of my list, in roughly alphabetical artist order:
Song for Obol (Arborea) Rolling In The Deep (Adele) Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out (The Antlers) - "Try, try, try, try, try, try, try" really ought to become the indie kid's answer to "Bounce Bonce Bounce Bounce Bounce." Spellwork (Austra) Sleeping Children are Flying (Blue Sky Black Death) Something by BtMI! (BtMI!) Perth (Bon Iver) Representing Memphis (Booker T. Jones) Nothing by Bright Eyes Freaks and Geeks (Childish Gambino) Go Outside (Cults) Decemberists song Kaputt (Destroyer) That One Song by The Drums There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (Dum Dum Girls) Shaker Star (Eef Barzelay) Blue Spotted Tail (Fleet Foxes) - Proof of my theory that the only Fleet Foxes songs worth listening to all the way through are the ones with the word "blue" in the title. Strawberry Swing (Frank Ocean) Pumped Up Kicks (Foster the People) Girls song? Something by For A Minor Reflection Something by Grouplove - "sub-Kreayshawn rapping" Howth? Tree By The River (Iron & Wine) [NPR Tiny Desk version ONLY] The Wilhelm Scream (James Blake) - idawabbawah my DREE! Kanye/Jay-Z: Otis, Niggas, Church, Murder, Gotta Have It? Shit Cradle or Whirring (Joy Formidable) Yoü And I (Lady Gaga) Lil B - rapping over Dexter? Lonely Forest: Turn Off or We Sing In Time Japan (The Lonely Island) By Your Hand (Los Campesinos!) Try to Sleep (Low) All The Places (Made In Heights) High Hawk Season (The Mountain Goats) Holdin' On To Black Metal (My Morning Jacket) Exile Vilify (The National) Polish Girl (Neon Indian) Panda Bear song? Supercollider? Radiohead It's Real (Real Estate) Cruel (St. Vincent) Frank Ocean's bits from She/The rest of She (Tyler, The Creator) Ffunny Ffrends (Unknown Mortal Orchestra) I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl (Wavves) House of Balloons BUT NOT GLASS TABLE GIRLS (The Weeknd) We Bros (WU LYF) Whale [maybe Mary] (Yellow Ostrich) Montana (Young Lagoon)
Gonna hopefully eventually turn this into a top-50 or top-25 sort of review-piece, long-form and everything and all that.

My favorite song of 2011. I still like the album but I love this song (and the video) far more.
