wow at the rate they're going, stereogum's lists will be identical to rolling stone's in the next few years.

Is Stereogum anti hip-hop/rap? There are six or seven names on there I know nothing about, otherwise I don't see anything remotely close.

oh god I lack reading comprehension skills. That's uncut's list. It made no sense as a stereogum list.
that list is pretty awful

I like this thread! Between these lists and the board member lists (I'm going to start that thread tomorrow after all) we'll all have some great albums to explore.

I've been afraid to listen to it for some reason. Charlie Darwin is outstanding though.

Personally I think it's criminal that Primus isn't on any of these lists, but the fact that a newer band like Man Man is completely missing seems nuts.
Sad to see no mention of TMBG either.

The Paste list is really bad. Radiohead, The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, and Wilco are all as high as they are only due to name recognition. Camp kinda sucked, and it's the only rap album on the list. It is in no way exciting to say that Bon Iver had the #1 album of the year, nor do I really think it's true - it just was pretty good to a lot of people, so it showed up on a lot of ballots. Any aggregated list will have that problem, which I hope is what that is.

Which hip hop albums were worth mentioning this year? The Throne, maybe Drake, maybe Lil B...? I liked Curren$y's album. I don't know, I guess I just don't listen to enough.

I thought of that after I mentioned it, but there are a couple I like enough to say, "I can't think of 48 albums I like better." Travis Barker, The Throne, Big K.R.I.T, Random Axe, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil B, all might make my top 50, and I still need to listen to the new Roots and Freddie Gibbs.

As I may have mentioned early on in the evolving-list thread, you can't make a year-end summary list this year without having something OFWGKTA. If it isn't Goblin, it's Nostalgia. Ultra. But one of the two, certainly.

if we're counting frank ocean as rap then definitely that
Goblin needed some serious help with the pacing/editing
