Uggghhhh. Ended up looking through a gallery of Gammell's artwork and it still gives me the jibblies just exactly as much as it ever did. Who's idea was it to sell that shit to children? quote] Hahaha, Yessss. I loved these books so hard growing up. I shared a bunk bed with my step sister for a long time and she had the bottom bunk. I used to open the book up to the pic above and pin the book into the underrailing of my top bunk so when she laid down in bed it was staring right back at her. ZING! After the 10th time or so she wasn't even scared of it anymore but I still did it all the time just to annoy her.

I am beyond excited for the new Caribou and whatever albums this year. Swim is such a perfect album. I'm listening to it right now, and trying to decide what my favorite song is, and it's always the one that's playing. What a fucking masterpiece, and it is withstanding the test of time pretty damn well. Hell yes. Currently "Kaili" has jockeyed into position as my favorite Swim song.

THERE'S A NEW DEERHOOF ALBUM COMING OUT NEXT WEEK! THE SAME DAY AS ANIMAL CCOLLECTIVE! LUMPY'S BEEN HOLDING OUT ON US! DA FU(N)CK! AND THAT SHIT IS EVEN ALREADY STREAMING RIGHT NOW! First thoughts: This is Deerhoof's party album. Super poppy, but with signature Deerhoof, so once again, I love it. Also, the title confuses me what with the fact that I thought Greg and Satomi were married, but maybe that's changed since... Stream it here (the whole stream includes a video Greg and Satomi did):

The new Mountain Goats sounds like the Mountain Goats plus a couple new instruments and beefed up production. That said, I haven't enjoyed the two albums since Heretic Pride, but I'm enjoying this one so far.
EDIT: Actually, fuck it. This album is pretty damn fun. Might even be up there with The Sunset Tree.

Too bad you aren't coming to Hopscotch, Pea. I feel you would enjoy the fact that John Darnielle is doing a Hopscotch-only set of him playing metal covers on piano. (Unfortunately, I'll miss it, cuz I gots to see Dan Deacon.)

Haha John Darnielle is such a dweeb. I'm probably 1 of 15 of his fans that actually understand all of the metal references he's made throughout his career. Fun fact, his last album was produced by the former guitarist of Morbid Angel. Too bad that album was terrible. Stick to grunts and growls, yo.

Got an email from Akron/Family saying they're making a new album. Probably will be a 2013 release, just in time for a Sasquatch appearance. We need these dudes.

Everything seems to relating to Hopscotch for me lately. I saw them at the first one, and that religious experience would make way too much sense at Sasquatch.

Either I completely missed it, or there really hasn't been any chatter around here about the new Bat for Lashes album. This song is stupidly gorgeous.

loadrecords.com/new-lightning-bolt-lp-oblivion-hunter/"Since forming in 1994, Lightning Bolt has taken a zig zag path to recording, playing and touring. Following in this pattern is the release of Oblivion Hunter, a collection of the band’s epic recording sessions over the last few years. Oblivion Hunter is a real cool time – loose, hard and loopy. From the get-go the sound is amped-up and free with an ear on the railroad tracks to the big sounds of industry and clamor. Bass sounds jump out of the speaker cones that conjure up ears in alien propulsion systems, nights in faraway wind tunnels, and brutal beatings at Gitmo. Drums and assorted FX pop in and out with the resolve of a finger quivering over the A-bomb button drunk on power and convinced of your need. This record is one of the few necessary things in your grim stretch of existence, played by a band with 20 years of total conviction to the destruction of your ear drums. The net is cast decidedly further this time out with North Pole square dancing colliding with shock troop whiplash, executed with the spontaneous interplay of neutrino collision. It is time for you to binge and purge. You are now the Oblivion Hunter." Someone knows how to sell me records.

Those are Brian Chippendale's actual arms in direct proportion to the rest of his body.

I seriously fucking hate Rick Rubin so much. The Avett Brothers are nothing more than another vanilla alt-country act now that he has them wrapped around his fat greasy sausage fingers.

I never throw down Aimee Mann albums but I love her soundtrack contributions- especially In Magnolia. And she was pretty funny in that episode of Portlandia.
