It's probably just the equivalent of an iPod that supports FLAC files, which is something the world definitely needs.

...minus the silly name, the awkward shape and the hint of smugness.

I really want to support the idea of a high quality music player but that thing looks terrible. It would have been horrendously outdated in 2005. Asking someone to pay 400 bucks for that in 2014 is insane.

I seriously fucking doubt that Neil Young has invented a new file format, let alone a new file format that is superior to FLAC. I reckon he's just banking on most people having never listened to recordings stored in FLAC files, or at least not on headphones. The difference is pretty fucking astounding.
What is more interesting to me here, and what I think the real intention is, is the associated download store it proposes. Clearly the intention is to create a central hub where artists can sell their records without having to pay ichunes' troll toll. The list of names on this project is the same list of names that are always found in articles about artist royalty rights.

The files are just FLAC. That is explained in the kickstarter. cbats nailed it though, that player is right outta 1999. The store, if it's successful, will be cool though.

Will the songs cost any more than itunes? I could try and look it up, but I'm far too lazy.
That player is dumb as fuck though. They have microSD cards that are 128GB, why does it need to be so big?

I agree with this, I just don't understand why you need an ugly $400 player to access the store.

I can't possibly be the only one who's brain reads "PornoPlayer" and "PornoMusic App" every time I read about that thing.

www.pitchfork.com/news/54360-the-flaming-lips-and-miley-cyrus-are-working-on-music-together/Proof that when two people are going insane their paths will eventually cross. As horrible as it sounds, I'm actually kind of curious to hear what will come from this abomination of the natural order. Edit: a quick look at Wayne's Instagram account shows a new picture of Miley in which he claims she is singing Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. I just went from actually kind of curious to actually kind of pissed.

R.I.P Dave Brockie. I never did make it to a Gwar show. I did, and it was one of the craziest, most fun shows I've ever been to. Kept telling myself I was going to go again, but never made it. Guess I never will. Fuck.
