The main reason I like EDM is because I like to get lost in music and just go crazy. I'm the person that you see on the freeway going apeshit to Bassnectar/Pretty Lights/etc and head-butting my steering wheel. I'm sure it could be considered some mental illness but whatever. The reason I like going to EDM shows is because I'm surrounded by hundreds of other like minded people wanting to rage and to just have a good time listening to music. Connecting with all those people at once is a powerful experience (unless it's with etarded 16 year olds) and I love that feeling.
Half the time I'm at these shows my eyes are closed and i'm just dancing and feeding off the energy from everyone else (sober or not) so the light shows are just a plus. The over-the-top light shows that are in abundance as of recently though are pretty cool whether you like the music or not, you have to admit. However, the best is when the artist/producer/dj feeds off the crowd and delivers a high-energy set and has top-notch mixing and keeps everyone on their toes.
I can see why people either don't understand EDM or think it's stupid. That's why I don't care if people hate edm, it's not for everybody...especially pretentious music snobs.

Anyway, we summarily dispensed with terms like 'pretentious music snob' a long, long time ago. And if you still think that about me -- or really pretty much anyone here -- then you don't read enough posts.
I'm, like, sorry you love a kind of 'music' that you constantly have to defend to people who, poor saps, don't get it. If there's one single thing in the world that it is legitimately impossible to take the intellectual high ground on, it's fucking Skrillex.
Yes, and also everyone please stop having this conversation because it's boring and there's already another thread for it. Seriously there are like only two threads we need to keep moderately clean: this one and... that's it. Maybe the confirmations thread once we get that going, if it happens.
If this conversation continues here I'm going to put Skrillex all over this board. You'll all be throwing up after twenty seconds.
You know what is worse than a pretentious music snob? A pretentious EDM snob.
I never said the music I like is better than the music everyone else likes, so I don't know where you are going with that statement. I like all forms of music, I was just explaining why I like edm.
Deadpunk, calm down! That wasn't aimed at you. It's like if you said there is nothing worse than burnt toast, and I said, "you know what is worse than burnt toast, burnt Alfredo." I don't even like cream based sauces anyway. Sorry I made you so butthurt with that comment, I was just speaking how I feel. Move along now...
As for Skrillex, every time I start thinking, "I should hate [fill in the blank artist/band], because it's cool to hate them," I punch myself in the groin as a reminder of how stupid that concept is, and partially because seeing how the 15 year girls dress at these EDM shows makes me never want to be 15 years away from fathering one, and multiple groin punches is logistically easier than going under the knife. Then I play Adele's newest album, sing along, and pity the hipsters who are too cool to listen to popular music. Besides, hating popular music isn't cool anymore.
Adele's new album is legit, I agree. I just don't like skrillex. I don't hate on popular music at all. Shit, I like deadmau5, rhcp, foo fighters, swedish house mafia, etc. I should not of thought that comment was based on me and you are right. I did not mean to cause a shitshow.
