Expensive Canadian Beer? Nah, its not expensive. I'm re-evaluating my options and I think I'll bring a 24 of good tasting beer and start out the nights with that, then move onto the cheaper American beer as the night progresses since it will all taste the same. Suggestions on good American beer for me to pick up? My God man. There is so much great American beer out there... May I ask what you consider to be "good Canadian beer" before I respond to your question? Keep in mind I am Canadian... I like all the Big Rock from Calgary mostly. It's one of my favorites.

Big Rock's alright.
Check out Elysian Brewing, Lagunitas Brewing, Stone Brewing, and Kona Brewing's Wailua Wheat.
Canada is a bit behind in the craft brewing renaissance IMO, and I learned that by going down to the States so much in the last year. Trust me, there is a lot of great beer down south; better then Big Rock as far as I'm concerned.
As for cheap beer, you'll find the Ice's (Busch or Natural Ice to be exact) to be the strongest for the money, but a lot of people here seem to be partial to Miller High Life.

I will for sure check those out and drink my self into knowledge! And I guess Ice/Miller will be my late night beer unless there are any other suggestions! (PBR to be trendy maybe?) haha

Canada is definitely NOT behind with their IPA's though. Some of the best I've had were in/from Vancouver.

Howe Sound Brewing is a really amazing brewery over here in BC and does make my fave IPA, but there are some really great IPA's southside too.
I know you liked that Phillips Hop Circle too Pea...

The stuff being made at Brasserie Dieu du Ciel in quebec is pretty awesome- I strongly suggest it if you are in Canada and can get it. Rigor Mortis and Solstice D'hiver are my favorites- but I'm a giant fan of big beers.

Those be the same people that make Maudite and Fin du Monde right? Not a fan of Fin du Monde, but I'll have to try that Solstice d'Hiver if it is in fact a winter ale. What kind of beer is Rigor Mortis?
Pea, the mystery beer was Swans IPA cask. It's not something you can get in store out here or I would buy it.

That's right. I keep forgetting it was a cask ale. Any beer on cask is like pouring it from a magical golden elephant trunk.

I know this is the wrong thread, but as long as we're talking about tasty American microbreweries, I would be remiss if I didn't mention my personal favorite - Deschutes Brewery out of Bend, OR. My fave is Mirror Pond (their pale ale) but other good ones are the Black butte Porter, Twilight (their summer seasonal) and Inversion IPA

I used to love Deschutes beer but I think I kinda burned myself out on it. I can imagine if I lived in another state I might feel differently about it.

Hell yes! We have some incredible beer here and some great beer bars. One we frequent near our house has like 50 micros on tap. And pinball!

I've finally admitted to myself that Portland >>>>>>>> Seattle, when it comes to craft beer. I need to get down there for some tastings soon.

Nah, Maudite etc. are made by Unibroue, which is also in Montreal. My favorite beer of theirs is actually Trois Pistoles, or Ephemere, but the black currant kind- not the apple stuff. www.ratebeer.com/brewers/dieu-du-ciel/364/There is the ratebeer site for all of their beers. Rigor Mortis is a Belgian Brown Beer Peche Mortel- their imperial coffee stout- is also really awesome.

Pea, the mystery beer was Swans IPA cask. I'm staying at the boutique hotel at the Swans Brewery when I visit Victoria (for the first time!) on Canada Day long weekend. Looking forward to my brewery tour of the provincial capital! I'll definitely be bringing some bottles back, and I'll have to try that Swans IPA. I'm not usually a cask guy but I'll try anything once when it comes to beer!
