How the shit is R. Kelly still relevant in a way that he's billed so high on the festival circut?

Not to undersell R.Kelly's popularity (he's still very popular), but Pitchfork headliners aren't exactly the same as other festivals. I mean, GY!BE headlined last year.

I would enjoy the hell out of an R. Kelly show. That would be awesome.

Kelly was from Chicago contributed to this, but that doesn't explain why he is still billed high on Bonnaroo. I honestly thought that he was just a joke anymore. I think if he was touring on his own he would be playing small venues with maybe 1000 person capacity.

Seems about right for the billing he's getting.

Meanwhile Phoenix is headlining Coachella and the sub 3000 person venue they are play in Vancouver on Thursday has started to give away tickets on the radio to try and put butts in the seats.
Sigur Ros is playing a 10000 person venue after Sasquatch and somehow they are listed 3 acts below Phoenix on the same day.
Conclusion: I don't get festival billings sometimes.

A small part of me wants to believe that there's some sort of secret headliner -- like Prince?-- that's scheduled for that night. I mean, I actually like Phoenix but even I can't understand how they're headliners?

You guys should all come to Bonnaroo with Souly and watch R. Kelly and Weird Al perform a 'Trapped In the Closet/Drive-Thru' medley. Also Bjork.

Prince as a surprise guest seems like reasonable speculation given his schedule and the underwhelming Coachella headliners. It does seem reasonable which is why it probably won't happen

The only way to justify Phoenix headlining is if Daft Punk does a guest spot with them.
I don't see why they would shell out for Prince and not say anything until right before the festival. Then again, it's sold out so they can do whatever they want.

All I know is if Coachella wants to continue to be known as the festival of surprises and "holy shit" moments, they better have some stuff up their sleeves that they're keeping from us, because so far this year and lineup are shaping up to be pretty run-of-the-mill for festival standards.
