The National- High VelvetAre you sure that isn't an album by the Nation? Well shit, nothing gets past Wonk. *High Violet, not High Velvet. Oops. I guess I had gotten too high myself. This is actually the first time I've ever listened to The National (beyond hearing singles here and there). Still not totally sure how I feel about it, I was a little underwhelmed by a lot of the tracks (I liked "England' and "Sorrow" from that album) but I dug their performance on SNL. And putting on a good show on the SNL stage is notoriously difficult to achieve, so I am looking forward to their Sasquatch set. Wonk, which of their albums should I try next?

Alligator and Boxer are their two best albums. Can't go wrong with either of those. High Violet is a good record but I think it's one that works best if you're already a fan of the band.

Alligator is fucking phenomenal. Boxer drags a bit, but it's got that one song on it and it's a killer. Anything after Boxer is sad bastard music.

I heard Boxer, and that bastard is still pretty sad.

I heard Boxer, and that bastard is still pretty sad. I finally got around to listening Alligator and it is definitely more upbeat. However, being the most upbeat National album is a lot like being the most intelligent person on this board (tallest midget and such).
