Whenever I feel like listening to Sea Change but don't feel like depressing the shit out of myself, I just try to remember that all of those songs were written about Winona Ryder.
It helps.

I think Beck and I got our hearts shattered at the exact same time.
Pretty sure I spent a couple months crying into my pillow thinking "Beck GETS me man"...ahhh young love.

I never really 'got' Beck. I mean I like a handful of songs, but I generally just nod along when people are talking about him.

Rusty are you for realsies? Where were you in the nineties? I liked Guero a lot when it came out, personally. When we were listening to it last night I was seriously getting down with it. Cbats, I get it is not your favorite, but what about it makes you feel it was more commercial than artistic? I'm obviously in the minority here but I just find it lazy. It sounds like a bad impression of odelay to me without much of the fun. I think I hear the same thing when I listen to Guero that HG hears when he listens to the information. So the first time you saw Beck was on the Sea Change tour? Flaming Lips and all that? And THAT was what got you hooked? Ugh, that shit was a disaster. I was 12 when Midnight Vultures came out, what do you expect. Also, I saw the tour after the lips had left and The Black Keys were opening instead. That might have helped.

Rusty are you for realsies? Where were you in the nineties? I was age 2-11 in the 90's, I was outside playing with sticks. I also lived in the middle of no where until I was 9...I was fairly sheltered as a child.

Oh, Lurrrrrrd! It always weirds me out when the generation gap rears its ugly head. Rusty was probably five years old the night that I saw Beck for the first time.

Beck is one of the number one artists that I WANT to see but have never had the chance too see. Been a fan since someone introduced me to Mellow Gold when I was in grade 11. By the time "Beercan" rolled around I was hooked.
Sea Change is my favourite Beck album.

I saw Beck on every tour from Odelay to Guero. The Midnite Vultures show is one of the ten best shows I think I've ever seen. He is -- or was -- a fantastic, restless, innovative performer with one of the most dominating stage presences of our lifetime. I really miss seeing him perform, he really was something else. For a while there he was just unbeatable.

Well thanks HG for rubbing it in. Yeah, he does that. If it makes you feel better, I did not get to go to shows growing up unless they were ones my parents wanted to see, so basically never. I finally saw Beck in 2005 and it was really exciting.

I should listen to some newer Beck albums. I kind of stopped listening after Odelay. I thought he was going downhill after that, but I was much younger then. Obviously. How long has it been?

Fifteen years here since Odelay. He's done a lot of great stuff since then, definitely worth looking into.

My favorite on Guero is 'Earthquake Weather'. I love that grumpy little breakdown.
