My favourite moment of my entire summer was seeing The Swell Season end their show with "Where Is My Mind?" and Black Francis coming out to sing it with Glen. SO AMAZING!

If I'm not mistaken, Nada Surf also did a cover of that song for the Fight Club soundtrack? Either way, it's one of my pixies favorites.

Nope, it's still the Pixies in that movie.

I don't think the Swell Season ever recorded a cover of it. They were just playing it because Black Francis was their opener for a few dates and Glen Hansard loves the Pixies/Surfer Rosa. They also opened the show with a cover of "Cactus."
It wouldn't surprise me if Nada Surf had recorded a cover of it though.

As well as an "idiot" Pavement fanboy, I also double as a Pixies fanboy, and I can tell you that Nada Surf did indeed cover "Where Is My Mind?" You are not imagining things. Also, that special announcement better be a fucking Bossanova tour. Especially after I drove 8 hours for the Doolittle tour in 2009 when they came to my town the next year. Goddamnit.

Pixies have toured too much. They're not making new music and they're not playing anything different, or differently. I'm sure they're still fun to watch, but when it gets to the point where everyone's seen the same show you've been touring for seven years, what's the point?

This is exactly the kind of argument I would make for a band that was bad. And while I'm sure HG will show up in a little while to back you up, I have to suggest that the point is "because the music is still good." I saw them in 2005 and would GLADLY do it again.

Ah, thanks for that I8. And if they did a Bossanova tour, it'd definitely be a lot different than what they've been doing.

While for me there was a time for the Pixies in my life, I would LOVE to see a more non-headliner performance of Frank Black doing either of his first two solo outputs in their entirety. I have fond memories of the Pixies (and did even catch them on the reunion tour in 2004), but "Frank Black" and "Teenager of the Year" are the only Pixies related stuff I find my self listening to these days.

Teenager of the Year is one of the best albums ever.

I'm also not a Norah Jones fan. I picked up that CD at a Starbucks out of curiosity because there were duets with Outkast, Sean Bones, Foo Fighters and a bunch of other rather unlikely guests. Wasn't bad. I could do without 75% of it though. MEMO TO KNOW: Please give this guy a tagline (or whatever) that says "buys his CDs at Starbucks" oh please forgive me for my hellworthy trespass of being intrigued by an unlikely duet on a CD I saw at the indie cred-less consumerism beast known as Starbucks. I'll be sure to only buy CDs in shady underground record stores from now on.

you should probably buy Vinyl instead of CDs at those shady underground record stores.

Look dude, Norah Jones' music is bullshit. You can tell by the fact that she can't sell CDs on their own merit, she needs a huge cast of guest stars listed in 24-point font AND she needs her CD prominently displayed on the counter at every Starbucks in the country in the hopes that every milquetoast housewife with a credit card and too much silence in their life will buy it and lose it in their car.

Sometimes HG reminds me that certain words exist that I never use, like "milquetoast" and "cloying."

Like my hot wife would do, she is clumsy like that. Does your hot wife know that you say mean, condescending shit about her online? I dunno, I mean, my hot wife would kick me in the balls if I talked about her like we were in an episode of Mad Men.

I say, once again, I am not a Norah Jones fan. I am a Foo Fighters fan, and I saw that they did a duet with Norah Jones and wanted to hear it. It was an impulse buy. I do not regularly buy music from Starbucks (I'm a Tim Hortons fan myself, and they don't sell music).
I refuse to apologize for being open to finding out about new music in unlikely places.
If it helps redeem my cred, I'm going to the flea market to look for vinyl this weekend.
