our fb page: listn.to/that-and-the-vaticanwe recorded demos over winter break and recently finished em up. we recorded the tracks using my analog gear (in full takes) and then dumped em into cubase just to mix and eq a little. i play bass and wrote the cuts with the vocalist/rhythm guitarist. any and all feedback is greatly appreciated

"he's a good man, and thorough."
as for the long list, good idea. only complaint: local natives with 1 lp has the most songs recommended (and as much as i like them, they all sound the same).

i know i'm late to the radiohead lyrics discussion, but quoting their first two albums made during the grunge era doesn't real say anything about their lyrics. plus creep fucking blows.
and explosions doesn't win. andrew bird wins.

I personally have a hard time thinking of anybody who has only released pure gold for their entire career. In my opinion... Gold Status: Sigur Ros Portugal. The Man (if you realize American Ghetto a B-side album) Boards of Canada Gold with a little impurity: Andrew Bird Elliott Smith Broken Social Scene

whoa i get no credit for that? i remember the good old days when lumpy didn't have to spell it all out for everyone.
if they don't get announced for roo tomorrow and they don't get rumoured for lolla, i expect a small fall tour and a big ol' international one after christmas and into next year for festivals.

know, i probably coulda tossed this together last week with the predictions from your blog. pretty outstanding guesses considering how close az kept things to the chest this year.
instead of worry about conflicts too much, we should delve into some new tunes and make some helpful mixes that are a little deeper than just singles. i'm thinking i'm gonna make the trek again from the east coast... but by air and not ground this time around.

in my defense, i have to find something to do instead of my thesis. i like the ?? ??s though. it makes the lineup seem so much more intriguing.

This is the 2011 schedule to date to the best of my knowledge. Last year, nothing drastic changed after we saw the stage lineup on the official site. I took last years set times, added Friday, and left the empty slots. Last year, additions were either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd on their stage that day. Some bands might shift - like pepper rabbit to being the first band on the Yeti on Saturday - but don't expect anything major Praying for miracle additions is acceptable. Last year's lineup is on page 2 for reference. We'll flush it out as comedians, cancellations, and confirmations are announced. Attachments:

since people are still only using this thread, i'll give my two cents on some standouts from cmj over the past couple years.
-s. carey is amazing live, hopefully it translates to an outdoor venue. his debut lp 'all we grow' from 2010 is great. he drummed for bon iver on that year plus tour. -dan mangan opened for j vanderslice and john darnielle's side project 'the extra lens' and was hilarious. the folksy alt rock isn't always what i go for, but it sounded stellar. -smith westerns is some great new indie rock. their new lp with fat possum will continue to get positive reviews all year. -wye oak is awesome. cymbals eat guitars dynamics + neutral milk hotel folk. really great songwriting. -villagers is real gentle, but sounded great live. -the antlers, obviously, were outstanding. -surfer blood was really impressive, fresh, and clean live. to be honest, they sounded like vampire weekend but a little more dense. i thought their album last year was mixed terribly and i've avoided them since like the plague. i'm interested to hear them again after a year of touring.
and just others in the bottom half you should already love: black mountain, radio dept, and gayngs. oh god.

Hey Peatrick, you should line up a 24hr shot for yourself for after the lineup is announced. The 24hr is: 1 shot Amaretto dropped into 1 rye & coke dropped into 1/3 schooner of the cheapest beer available. drink it all like 1 shot. it's on all of us. we'll give you a quarter each in may
