Just to get an idea of what everyone's musical tastes are, create a list of bands you like (or would like to see) that have played at past Sasquatch festivals. I'll go first:

The Flaming Lips The Fucking Flaming LipsTHE MOTHER FUCKING FLAMING FUCKING LIPSSaw them open for RHCP awhile back... They had interesting stage presence, but I was completely alienated by their music. Please tell my they have better songs than "do you realize?". I'll take any suggestions. On a side note, Steven Drozd and Maynard James Keenan do an awesome cover of Elton John's "Rocket man"

In a strangely misguided effort to revitalize his flagging webboard career, mhancho appears to have created another Make a Huge List of Bands You Like thread.

Pre-Soft Bulletin Lips all the way.
Hit to Death in the Future Head, Priest Driven Ambulance, Clouds Taste Metallic, Transmissions, and fucking Zaireeka. It's a shame that, live, they won't touch most of the material from any of those albums, but every once in a while you'll get Bad Days or, if you're INCREDIBLY fucking lucky, Lightning Strikes the Postman.

And just because I'm participating in this thread does NOT mean that I am validating hancho's embarrassing attempt at impressing us with what he thinks is an educated and diverse list of artists.

Do you think that maybe you seek power in an anonymous forum to compensate for the lack of control that you experience when interacting face to face? just something to think about.

Oh, I discuss it with my therapist all the damn time. I've been pretty open about it here, too. You just don't know it because you're just a little Baby Sasquatch perhaps, but I say it frequently: My personality in real life is different.
Also: anonymous to YOU maybe, but *I* have posted my name, my picture, and even a link to my Facebook page at one point, I think. I put a lot of myself out there for you people to pick over. I'd sit down and have these conversations with any one of you in real life (except biff and hancho because they're pieces of shit).
I've noticed that the people who have stronger, more mature, more clearly defined personalities on this board get along with me just fine, and the pissy internet trolls who think that someone has a problem with them personally if you don't like the band they like are the ones who get all worked up over stupid shit.
Your post is kind of hateful, Miss Vismund. Even if I'm a complete asshole I don't think I go out of my way to call people's character into question like that.
Maybe your dad was an alcoholic and it was your responsibility to clean up after him and call him out on his irrational shit behavior and that's why you feel like you are entitled to cruelly psychoanalyze people you don't understand and who don't love you.
See, that wasn't very nice, was it?

Look, I'm not here to pick on you. I'm here because I have a profound love of music and, more specifically, Sasquatch!. That's both the root and limit of my investment in this board. The point is the invaluable conversation. I don't think I'd be out on a limb to say that you're most people's favorite poster(myself included), but the combative/elitist nature of many of your posts, is a direct violation of everything Sasquatch stands for, as it deadens much of what we hope to gain from the experience. We're all here because we're waiting. You don't have to be mean about it.

All I am going to say is that "cut" and "paste" is a wonderful tool. Saves a lot of time, even if I have to borrow wikipedia's format...all on a faulty iphone, nonetheless. I don't see any current threads on favorite sasquatch bands past this page, so it is a nice thing to know everybody's input.
So... Flaming lips. I will definitely check those tunes out, thank you very much!

but the combative/elitist nature of many of your posts, is a direct violation of everything Sasquatch stands for Quit violating Sasquatch Gramma! And our BELIEFS (ha ha). I mean, we're ALL out here standing UP for Sasquatch (and our DREAMS!) while you seem only interested in sitting DOWN for Sasquatch. Also speaking of sitting and standing at Sasquatch, "SIT down and RELAX you kids! It's only the early afternoon and I'm trying to watch They Might Be Giants! I PROMISE the Power Ranger kids will be back later, and then later once again (for sure! THIS IS WHAT THEY DO! This was not an act of FUNCTIONAL wardrobe) and possibly a whole other group of Power Ranger kids will even turn up. YOU WILL ALL HAVE YOUR MOMENT TO SAY "I WAS THERE WHEN THE (fake)RED POWER RANGER WENT BY!", but for now take a cue from Gramma and SIT down for Sasquatch!"

I love music, I love Sasquatch, and yes, I love butting heads with internet people. I have no particular problem with you, Miss Vismund, in fact I'm fascinated by a young-ish female prog hog. But I'm not an elitist: I'm the guy you're as likely to find singing along to the Newsies soundtrack as you are to find me getting spiritual about a King Crimson record.
Message boards are ALL ABOUT argument, though; they're about knowing what you're talking about and being required to stand by what you say, because it stays right there for everyone to see (unless you're doumak, and you go through and delete it all). I like to be consistent, and I spend enough time here that if someone starts talking out of their ass - be it you or Peatrick or biff or Snorlax or ANYONE - I'll happily point it out just to keep the regulars honest. And if, say, the most gratingly awful poster we've ever had starts formatting his posts in the most annoying way imaginable, I'll probably have something to say about that too.
I care deeply about the Sasquatch! Vibe, as Gunther christened the singular feeling we all get when we gather at the Gorge in May. There's nothing like it, and it keeps me going for the year, and the residual emotions bring many of us back to this board every day because we're just so damn excited about it. But if we were all shiny happy people all diggity day long here, it would be dreadfully boring.
And there would be no Horned Gramma, and my ability to make you want to simultaneously hug me and kick me in the balls is what makes me Me.
