Whoa...since when did Little Sumpin' Wild taste like a strong ale/hefeweizen hybrid? This is not at all what I remember it tasting like, but I'm really fucking enjoying it.

I've been noticing lately that the taste of different batches of the same Lagunitas beer can vary pretty drastically. Don't know quite what to attribute it to; it's always super fucking delicious no matter what, but it can be confusing.

This belongs in the baseball thread, but balding beer fans might appreciate a new hat idea:

Had a Deschutes - Chasin' Freshies Fresh Hopped IPA last night. Easily one of the best smelling beers I've ever had the pleasure of smelling. As expected, it tasted fantastic too.
Oh yeah, also scored a sixer of SLEIGHR. Yummo!

Pros: The color, no doubt. It's rich amber color and red highlighting is very attractive. It also pours very well. Taste improves as it warms. Very drinkable considering its 9.99 ABV. Cons: For a strong ale, the taste is a bit muddled. The hops also doesn't seem to mesh very well with the brown sugar. It's pretty unbalanced in the way of flavor. Seems more like a sweetened up barley-wine than an American strong ale. Final Thoughts: Still, despite its many faults, it's a better than average American Strong Ale, but not something I can see myself buying again. C+

Thanksgiving at my parent's house = tons of bottle sharing
I am bringing Ninkasi Lady of Avalon (dark lager) to contribute. I really enjoy the lager series that Ninkasi does and this one might be my favorite so far.

I don't think I have found a Lager that really stands out among the rest. I have become quite the Ninkasi fan, so maybe this will be different.

Thinking about hitting up a couple of breweries while I'm in Chicago this weekend. Don't know how far I'll be able to stray from the grandparents' house, but Mickey Finn's Brewery and Tighthead Brewing Company are within 10 miles of them, so I might try to sneak away with my old man to sample some of their offerings. Mickey Finn's has a 10% double IPA called Pineapple Express that sounds pretty amazing, as well as a brand new Belgium strong ale called Santa's Magic that they're tapping on Saturday. Not too many immediately caught my eye at Tighthead except for their "May The Schwartz Be With You!" Schwartzbier. I don't see too many of those around so I'd love to sample that.

Have fun in Chicago Pea!
It took a while for me to get into lagers because I didn't used to know what a lager is. When I realized that it is the other beer family (ales vs lagers) I figured there has to be a ton out there that I just don't know. Sure enough there are jackpots to be found.
If you are in Oregon someday I highly recommend checking out Heater Allen (Mcminnville). They are a tiny brewery that you would want to email ahead of time to ensure you can get a tasting. They make delicious lager beers.
To be honest, the first lager I got into was Trumer Pils and I am sure you can get that anywhere

I tried to write down the beers I tried this weekend but I got supremely fucked up. Here is what I had that I remember haha:
Sierra Nevada - Celebration Ale (2012) Kulshan Brewing - Kitten Mittens Winter Warmer Snoqualmie Falls Brewing - Steam Train Porter Thornbridge Brewery - Kipling 10 Barrel Brewing Company - DUB Double India Pale Ale Boundary Bay - Cabin Fever Full Sail Brewing - Big Daddy J's Malt Liquor Base Camp Brewing - In-Tents IPL
Out of those ones I really only didn't enjoy the Full Sail Malt Liquor. The IPL (India Pale Lager) was pretty interesting. I have never had that style before and never heard of Base Camp Brewing. I have liked everything I have tried from 10 Barrel Brewing (Bend).
On Friday we stopped at Skookum Brewery on the way back to Bellingham. I was impressed and liked pretty much all of their brews.

I don't know anything about these guys but I am excited to find out!

Had a few winter beers yesterday evening that I hadn't tried yet:
Bridgeport Ebenezer Ale Cascade Lakes Slippery Slope Oakshire Ill Tempered Gnome
Wasn't a huge fan of Cascade Lakes but it was a very drinkable winter warmer. I didn't finish the Bridgeport one. That was way too sweet for me. Ill Tempered Gnome won that round. It left me wanting more.
Going to try and pick up 3 different winter beers either tonight or Saturday night. Want to try all of them they have at the bottle shop by my house!

Bridgeport only makes shitty beers. You know I haven't tried too many of their beers. I have had Hop Czar and Kingpin. I didn't like either of those. Every time I am in Portland I feel like I should go there and do a sampler.
