I saw Mudhoney in the smallest venue in Portland. It, uhh, didn't do much for me. But that's me and Mudhoney for ya.

The only time I saw Mudhoney was at the Sub Pop 20th anniversary and they were pretty awesome there

Fucking Mudhoney. Jesus christ. All I can think about is being subjected to hours of them on road trips as my ex-boyfriend wore a Mudhoney t-shirt from highschool (see: 2 sizes two small) because he wasn't ready to let go of the dream of the 90s. He text me like two days ago actually to inform me, "You know what Mudhoney t-shirt?" "Yes. How could I forget?" "It's not super tight on me anymore. It fits again! " Oh man.

wasn't ready to let go of the dream of the 90s. Unrelated, but this reminds me of the fact of the 2 bands I'm in that I actually write for have both been described as "so '90's" by different people in completely different circumstances. I've decided to accept it and take it as a compliment.

Is it actually the smallest or are you just saying that?

Smallest I can think of. I think wonk verified it a couple minutes ago; he would know.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a ticket to see Refused /w Sleigh Bells at the Roseland in August tomorrow. No idea if I'll actually be able to make it to the coast by then but I'll never forgive myself if I don't try to go.

Smallest I can think of. I think wonk verified it a couple minutes ago; he would know. It was more of a statement about me being at that Mudhoney Dante's show. It's tough to really say which is the smallest music venue, because you have to define what constitutes a music venue, and what constitutes a bar with a stage. The Doug Fir venue is only open for shows, and I can't think of a smaller 'music only venue." I'm fine with calling Dante's the smallest venue in town, even though there are smaller bars with stages. I'm sure this would be a pretty heated hipster debate with a lot of hair splitting, because it's hard to be wrong with this one.

Yeah, good points. Dante's feels smaller than the Fir, but it's probably not. I think of Dante's as a venue because they do sometimes book national acts, while most other Bars With Stages generally only book local bands.

Oh yeah, Dante's is much smaller than the Fir. I also was trying to think of why I would classify Dante's as a venue over bars with stages, and the national acts booking was what I was leaning towards. Jimmy Mak's and the Ash Street Saloon might have an argument using that criteria however.
Another couple posts about this, mixed with a dissenting opinion, and we'll have that hipster debate I mentioned. I'm quarter hipster you know.

Satyricon was smaller. It is closed now but was open then. I can't really think of any others to have a dissenting opinion about.
