Pearl Jam tonight! Holy smokes I'm excited. Looking at their last couple set lists...this show is going to be freaking amazing. Fucking right!!! This show is going to be unreal. That Saskatoon setlist is by far the best of the tour.

December 20? I'd love to go but that date might be difficult...
LMFAO is a total guilty pleasure of mine.

I realized the Flaming Lips have two types of fans. Fans that look like Geno and fans that look like HG.

Apparently Opeth will be playing no heavy songs on their current tour. Or atleast, that's the pattern right now. That's kind of disappointing. That would be very disappointing. All the critics would be right saying that Opeth is not Opeth anymore. As much as I love their mellow stuff, it's kind of lame that they chose not to put any of their heavier songs on the setlist. I mean come on, they're playing that one song that they had on the God of War soundtrack, and a short bonus track from Blackwater Park. Only one song from Damnation, and even Harvest (one of my favorite soft songs) isn't on there. I'm probably going to enjoy the show, but it's just kind of a strange move.

I have acquired my tickets for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra show on Black Friday at the Spokane Arena. I ended up with row 17 on the far right which were the "best seat's available" at floor level. Set me back about $150 after fees for 2 which is a little pricey, but I am happy to finally get to see this show.

Pearl Jam were unbelievably amazing last night. 2.5 hours, 28 songs! Well worth the $70 ticket price.
The real gem of the night was when Eddie talked about R.E.M. breaking up and the influence that they were to Pearl Jam. Then they fucking did a cover of "It Happened Today" from R.E.M.'s last album!!! Unreal. I'm not even gonna lie, it made me weepy. Pearl Jam and R.E.M. are my two favorite bands, so to see PJ cover them was a highlight of my concert going experiences.

Macklemore just announced a show in Minneapolis here on my birthday (not till December). His recorded stuff and the 20 minutes of his set I caught at Sasquatch haven't impressed me but with as quickly as he's becoming famous, if I don't catch him now I probably never will (certainly not in seattle). I just don't know how I feel about spending my birthday seeing a rapper I don't even particularly like...

Oh good lord cbats. If you don't like his material and you've even seen him perform and didn't enjoy that, then why on earth would you go see him again? On your birthday? Because he's 'becoming famous'?
Ch-ch-check that, homeboy. Consider the relative nature of 'famous' for acts like Macklemore. And then pause to consider if that should matter in the slightest. None of the people who are telling you that Macklemore is the next big thing are going to know or care if you do or don't go, so why don't you do something that you might actually enjoy instead?

Nothing like kicking off the holiday season with a rock n roll Christmas show jam packed with LASERS.

Also, I feel like last night was my first proper Flaming Lips show, and holy shit was it awesome. Wayne never really went on any rants and the entire band just looked like they were having the time of their lives. Mind-blowing stage show, hilarious location for a Lips show, and a smaller than expected yet amazing crowd. Such a fun evening.

I can't imagine his shows outside the PNW would be anything more than average. He's a big time PNW homer. A quick glance at the rap styles by region will looks something like this: New York/East Coast: Gangsta rap Atlanta: Dirty South Chicago: Hipster-hop Detroit: Hardcore L.A./West Coast: Glam Rap Therefore I find it a bit unsettling that the PNW is finally getting a superstar with hometown roots, and it's a pretty boy who sings a song called "Stay At Home Dad."

Realistically I caught like 2 songs at sasquatch and one was like 10 minutes of him jumping around in a costume pretending to be his alter ego "Raven Bowie." I'm not sold on his recorded music but he's only released 1 ep in the last 5 years so it's not like there is a ton to judge it on. I'm more curious to find out what I'm missing because people like Gunther have said they're not really fans either but he's really good live. Also, I realize that going to see someone cause they're popular is a lame reason but there is something cool about seeing someone in a small venue for like 15 bucks who will probably play either the Paramount, Wamu, or Key Arena next time they play a show in seattle and sell tickets for double or triple that. Basically I was planning on catching him next time he came through here and it's just lame that it ended up being on my birthday. Giving an act another chance isn't a big deal for the most part but having it be on my birthday is disappointing edit: also champagne champagne are opening and I've somehow managed to never catch a show of theirs so that's a plus

Aren't Champagne Champagne the perennial bottom-dwellers of Sasquatch's lower tier?

yeah they're usually there along with mad rad, fresh expresso, and common market. Champagne Champagne has the added benefit of having someone from pretty girls make graves which is something I guess

Rifflandia starts tonight! Gonna start slow, just see one of my favorite local bands and then hit up Braids after that. Then tomorrow BSS, Mother Mother, Besnard Lakes, Ra Ra Riot and The Cave Singers in the park! Of course, as it's pouring right now it might be a little soggy, but I've definitely seen worse. So excited! Gotta crack open a Rifflandabrau to get things started! (Well, maybe after work.)

Rifflandia is such a cool name for a festival. I'm going to be in that area next year , hopefully I can go.
