Massive Attack has been around, their fans have seen them play, and they toured last year. Last year was the first opportunity I ever had to see them... and i've been listening to them since 1993. Massive Attack haven't played in the US since 1993? I wasn't aware. They still were touring last year though, so you had several chances to see them. We will be lucky if Pulp hits US soil.

I'm from Bermuda... and unless I spent my entire teenage years in a coma, I'm fairly certain they never played there.

But you're right. They did tour last year. And I saw them. Twice.

I bet there are a lot of places in this world Massive Attack has never played, or any band for that matter.

wasn't being argumentative at all actually. you had previously stated that Massive Attack have been around and their fans have had chances to see them. i consider myself a fan - and have been for close to 20 years, but the first chance i had to see them was last year. that's all i was saying.
i was challenging your argument on the comparison between Massive Attack coming to Sasquatch vs a US tour by Pulp.
EDIT: i WASN'T challenging your argument... etc etc etc

When there's only 35,000 tickets you can sell, that's just as effective as having the most expensive band in the country on your lineup. Just a point of clarification - are you talking about Sasquatch? I thought the capacity was something like 25,000 per day, tops. Someone please correct me. The Wikipedia page is worthless.

Well, there are about 5 different sources that say the Gorge's capacity is 20-25k, but wouldn't that be just for the mainstage area? I remember last year there was a rumour going around that the festival sold to close to 50k for one of the days.

All I can find is 25K but I heard when the Cure played in 2008, there was 35K because the tickets from the cancelled concert were good for that day.
I think 25k is the right figure, but it would not surprise me if it was 30k.

I have no source, but I tend to remember useless stats. I recall the venue itself has a capacity of nearly 20K. When you count the extra space for the side stages and tent, the festival capacity raises to 25K. I've never heard 30K+ mentioned until today, however I suspect the more traffic they direct away from the mainstage headliners increases the max capacity (remember the headliners used to play unopposed), so I would guess capacity has raised to 27K or so over the last couple years. Building a bigger dance tent probably increases capacity too.
I don't know how the Cure ticket conversion worked, but they can't just say, "today we'll allow 35K," because capacity is set by firemen or something. If they were allowed to do it that day, they would just sell 10K more tickets every year. I think they just sold less tickets the Cure day. It wasn't noticeably more crowded during the Cure. If there was an extra 10K there, that would be noticeable.

35k was either a typo or something I pulled outta my ass.

Wow, I'm coming into this discussion a little late (damn you, work!)... But what the hell. FF are more like an added bonus to Sasquatch for me and they should only be considered as an indication of how big the festival is going to be this year for the rest of you. In other words, I'm sure the other headliners will be just as big, just maybe not commercially. Also, Being the FF fanboy that I am, I would never pay 300 to see just one band. That would be just plain dumb. Like Gramma stated, its the solid up-down lineup that gets my hard earned cash. I hope they have atleast 2-3 more solid bands (of whatever rank) playing on Friday or I'll be disappointed.

EDIT: i WASN'T challenging your argument... etc etc etc Now that I've had more time to google my original statement, my memory did serve me correctly, Massive Attack played Coachella and ACL in 2006, and hit a lot of the major cities the same year. So my general statement saying Massive Attack has been around, and their fans have had an opportunity to see them (compared to Pulp who broke up ten years ago) was INDEED generally true, while your assertion that you didn't get that chance because you were living in Bermuda (where you don't have a chance to see any relevant festival headliners) was INDEED argumentative about an entirely different point, "some people couldn't go in 2006." And if you count one of your first opportunities to see Massive Attack as flying from Atlanta/Pittsburgh to Seattle for last year's festival, you also had the same opportunity to fly to the contiguous United States to see them in 2006, making my general statement more correct.

Lol, Exactly... Well, so far. I have high hopes of the rest of the lineup being equally as great judging from the last few years. February 14th might still be pretty expensive since I will probably be paying for two

this is silly. i have no idea what point you're trying to make right now. i'm not arguing or even being argumentative. the simple fact is last year was the first opportunity i had to see them. i didn't have an opportunity to see them in 2006. did they tour? sure. but i didn't have an opportunity to see them.
i'm not entirely sure what you're implying i'm actually making an argument with you on. until you illustrated it, i had no idea was even arguing at all. i was merely stating that i hadn't seen them - when you indicated that their fans had.
and regarding pulp, i'm not making a comparison between the two bands and people's ability to see them. one broke up over a decade ago. the other didn't.
the only thing they have in common as it pertains to me is that up until last year - i hadn't seen either band... that and I'm big fans of both.

It's more than silly, it's stupid. If you re-read my original comment you replied to, you might agree. You living in Bermuda is not a defense for Massive Attack fans not having a chance to see them, yet that is where this started.
