Squarepusher; I'm sure there is an intentional joke in that name. However, dude had lights illuminating his hands most of the show, so you could see he's actually creating music. Then he pulled out his guitar, and the crowd went silent. Everyone was mesmerized. That was some cool shit.

You. Lucky. Bastard.
I would have drove down on a fucking Tuesday had I known dude was going to be in town pushing his squares.

Apparently he didn't do the regular NW tour? As hidden as any show can be, the Wonder Ballroom is one of the most obscure venues in Portland, because it isn't downtown, and the capacity is around 800. It was a $30/$35 show, and 21+, so there weren't any EDM kids there. The light show was 95% white and black, with every shade of gray in between, which is something I really appreciated. It was different.
I've always enjoyed the hell out of electronic artists who incorporate real instruments (the Bloody Beetroots is still one of the most interesting electronic shows I've seen), so it makes sense I would like Squarepusher live more than someone like Guetta, who has the stupid "I can't believe the kids like this shit because I know pop stars" grin on his face at all times. It was intelligent dance music. Is there a word for that?

The last time he was through Vancouver was 2009 and it was at a tiny club with very little promotion so I never heard about it. He doesn't appear to be coming through on his current tour.

Why fly across an ocean only to play Portland and San Francisco? Sounds like unintelligent dance music to me.

Last night was epic. Zechs Marquise blew my mind. Smoked weed with them after the show then went and saw Fang Island. Yet again, mind was blown. After they were done my friends and I kicked it with the the two Rodriguez Lopez brothers from Zechs Marquise and took tequila shots. Nicest guys ever.
I can't believe that I got to talk/smoke/drink with someone from my favorite band (Marcel plays drums for Zechs and is also part of The Mars Volta). So awesome. Now I have a horrible hangover and work is impossible. Oh well it was worth it

God damnit I got high and missed Fang Island. Did they play Davey Crocket? That is the funniest/most awesome jam.

Of course they did, any they probably closed with it. As one of the three (or four) Fang Island fans on the board, I missed them in Portland too. Long story, but the main reason was because they played at the absolute worst venue in town. I'm pretty sure I'm never going back to the Hawthorne Theatre again.

Why don't they just fix the god damn sound there? It seems easy enough. All they really need to do is turn the bass down. EVERY single show I go to there, the bass overpowers everything.

Saw two different shows since last online.
Sigur Ros: Wow. This was an intense experience for multiple reasons. Barely made it down to Seattle in time to get the early entry line perks. Got some rad seats but was totally wiped from work. Smoked a bowl in line which I was questioning due to my sleepiness. We brought in two flasks of Jameson and that balanced it out. They were borderline religious. Fucking epic breakdowns. Loved that show.
Rabbits, Monagamy Party, Gaytheist: This show was a shit show. Club 21 in Portland pours some stiff ass drinks. The sound was not great but the crowd was fantastic. I was in front for Gaytheist and Monogamy Party and shit got rowdy. Fun times. Rabbits' crowd was huge and I stepped outside so I was further back for them. We were so drunk that it didn't matter though. Great time.
good shows all around

Black Mountain was pretty unspectacular last night. Maybe I had high expectations because of the last time I saw them but they did not seem like they wanted to be there at all. The crowd was boring and I was the only one dancing. I think they played a lot of new songs because no one seemed to know any of them. They only played for an hour and fifteen minutes and ended at 12:30. I have been to shows on weekdays that go untill 2 at that venue. I got the vibe that they just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. They did sound incredible though, but the energy just wasn't there for me or anyone else in the room.
