On a related not to respecting women and all that stuff, anyone heard of slut walk?
Basically at a college somewhere (I think near Toronto) a cop was talking to the students about avoiding sexual assult and made a comment along the lines of "It would be good if girls didnt dress so slutty" (that is a paraphrase, but that was the general feeling of the comment) and everyone got mad.
This is a totally moronic statement because it just blames the victims (she was asking for it) so a bunch of people in Toronto staged a slut walk which was basically girls dressing slutty.
While I totally agree with the cause, but I really wonder if any guys who saw this thought "hmmm they have a good point" or if pure animal instincts kicked in and they were just enamoured by all the scantely clad women.
Thoughts?

I think we need to put down the gender/sexuality issues and walk away. It is bringing out a lot of ugliness, and nothing any of us has to say is interesting enough to justify it.
Seriously folks. This is Horned Gramma, he of the permanently severed emotional brake cables, calling time out. This needs to stop.

I am aware of this. I agree that the police in question were completely out of line. Victim blaming is never ok and no one ever is "asking for it."
I think the Slutwalk was attempting to raise awareness about this issue and it apparently did do that. I don't think the people who organized it should have to be afraid they are just whetting the appetites of any lascivious males or females in the vicinity. Surely that will happen if that is the type of person who is inclined to behave like that anyway. But I think that is kind of the point. Just because a certain person is attracted to/turned on by scantily clad women does not mean they are bad. It also does not mean it is ever ok to sexually assault someone. I think overall it was a good thing because when you have the authority figures that are supposed to be helping you telling you it was your fault you were sexually assaulted, how is anyone ever supposed to feel safe? This was a way to raise awareness and make it something that people think about.

@fd I definitely am all of those things and well aware that it biases my viewpoints. I'm not trying to look at anything in a vacuum, but I also think that considering what constraints might be imposed on how social systems are constructed based on the basic ways in which people are wired are important to consider. I don't think we are as far from reconciling our viewpoints as it looks like- I think there is a great deal of evil in the world, and there are definitely parts of the porn industry that exemplify our evils. I am not myself a huge supported of the porn industry, though I'd be lying if I said I've never watched porn. I do however think the issue is with more legitimate forms of objectification, as they are a whole lot more tractable than the influence of socialization. It hasn't been said here elporko, but I appreciate the thought and effort you have put into your posts thus far, especially given the unpopularity of your opinion on this board. I enjoyed reading the point-counterpoint with you and FD. Stay away from PM's if you think it may be relevant conversation for the group. I am just entirely unsympathetic to blanket statements which lack any qualification. Sorry man, I didn't mean to make you have to use your brain to figure out what on earth I could have been talking about. I will be sure to explore evey nook and cranny in order to eliminate all fringe elements of any topic in order for you to make sense of what is going on. That was the last one. Now, talking time.... Friendly, this is an A+ post and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. When you refrain from the excessive PC condescension, you can be an incredibly persuasive commenter.

As a young woman of color, and also as a human being, I just want to personally thank Friendly D for his responses. That was really awesome to read. It's sad how few people on my college campus of 30k people probably think the same way you do.

I still don't understand how an ass can be sexist. Just to help the kid out: The keyword to remember here is context. A person's behind in itself is not offensive, but (though I have not seen said .gif but I'm lead to believe that) the way it sounds like it was portrayed in that .gif was SUPER offensive and veeeerry objectifying of women. Either that, or I'm way off base here. Friendly D? Help? That's all I have to say all about this. Don't wanna get involved in this muck and let muh ugly out. Plus, I'd just probably be repeatin' otha people.

It was a closeup of a guy squeezing and toying with a sexy, oily ass. It was a plump, well rounded rump and it jiggled softly as he dutifully inspected it, as one might carefully select a piece of fresh produce.

I might just be a personal thing but I Know for a fact Karma can be a bitch! I am all about Karma. Last night i was working on my final at school and I found a Memory card somebody left in the computers. I put it in my pocket fully intending to turn it in at the front desk. Well needless to say I forgot until I returned to the library the next day. When I went to print my paper I lost the last five pages. Did not have any choice but to turn it in like that. Lets just say sprinted home grabbed the memory disk i found and rushed it to the library. I hope I am not fucked.
