What is ticketing like for MFNW? I think somebody mentioned that you can get single show tickets to insure entry before. Are there VIP tickets to get ahead of the lines? Yes, you can buy tickets to some of the shows you want to see, especially at the Roseland and Crystal Ballroom (not at Dante's). A hard ticket guarantees you entrance, as does a VIP pass. They try to keep venue capacity short of actual capacity so VIPs and ticket holders can wander in at their leisure. The wristbands used to be really cheap ($40 or so), so there can be really long lines at certain locations (holy shit that Vampire Weekend line in 2010). Wednesday usually kicks off the festival at the Crystal Ballroom with very little competing acts, so having a ticket or VIP that night is nearly required unless you want to show up three hours early. There are venues you need to cab back and forth to, but if you stay anywhere near the Roseland, 75% of the venues are within a fifteen minute walk.

Deerhunter + Godspeed + Animal Collective = it doesn't get much better for me. These are honestly my top 3 favorite festival-caliber acts.

Yeah, I am loving the lineup so far. I can't wait to see what the full offering is!
The free show that Flying Lotus played last year was awesome. It was at the Wonder Ballroom and it was hotter than any room I'd ever been in. Everyone was so disgustingly sweaty and hot, FlyLo commented that it was way hotter than he's used to in LA. In any case, the show was fantastic and the bike ride home felt amazing.

I found they usually have VIP tickets available. I didn't see any info on what VIP gets you, but I assume if there is a line, this will get you to the front like similar festivals. Edit: If I travel all that way, I don't want to get shut out of the artists I want to see.

From what I know, I don't think there are VIP tickets. I might be entirely wrong, but I've never noticed that as an option. I think the best way to guarantee entry to a show is to buy a ticket to it as opposed to getting a wristband. So many people get denied entry to shows even though they have a wristband that I think it's not even close to worth buying one.

And someone tell Cysquatch one of the draw-backs of blocking people is you look stupid asking the same question a couple posts after it has been answered.

To be fair, I did also mention that I could be completely wrong about that.
Sorry for not checking though, I was just going off of my faulty memory right after I woke up this morning. Probably not the best way to correctly answer someone's question.

Haha wonk answered your question with a pretty lengthy response and you didn't seem to catch it.

Now I do feel a little stupid. I was looking all over the Upcoming Shows thread for a response and it was answered a couple posts above my re-post in this thread. I thought most of the posts above that were old news, so didn't even backtrack that far.
Thank you for the feedback Wonk. That was exactly the kind of well informed response I was looking for. I wouldn't block you bro.

Murder by Death added to the lineup.
Wow, crazy amounts of good bands so far.

Murder by Death added to the lineup. The most metal sounding band name for a non-metal band. Speaking of metal, Baroness appears to be a lock based on tour dates.

Lineup is out: musicfestnw.com/lineup/#site-description$335.50 for a VIP pass. If that doesn't get me a lap dance by the lead singer of the Joy Formidable, I don't see the benefit. If I went to every show I could possibly attend all six days, I would be lucky to break $250 in entry fees.

Unless you are going to a show 6 nights in a row, the wristband never really seems worth it either. I'm definitely going to a few shows though, that's a very solid lineup of folks I'd like to see.
