Young The Giant was alright...nothing too special at least for now.
I've come to like Foster The People less and less since Sasquatch. Also a number of reviews have stated that their LP doesn't hold up the standards and catchiness presented by the EP and I DEFINITELY agree with that. I thought about going to see them at the Showbox but I was like..."nah fuck that".

I'm not too bummed for missing foster the people now. I watched all of macklemore's set then went to head over to Foster the People and there was literally no place to watch the show. Nowhere.

1. !!!- HOLY FUCK this was incredible!!! I was looking forward to seeing them but my expectations were just blown away. The energy of the music, the lead singer and his fantastic sexually-laden boy band dance moves, the people I met and spent the rest of my night with-- it topped every other set for me. Also, I was dancing at the rail up front to the side a bit, when he came over, pointed at me and we shared a a good 10 seconds of pelvic-thrust dancing. magic. (and the high drugs in no way made this seem more personal and special than it might have really been)
2 - White Denim - damn those boys can play! I wasn't really intending to be right up front for their set but I guess the stage was running late so no one was around when I wandered up to the railing. Man, am I glad they were the first band I got to be upfront for all weekend. My face was most definitely melted off! And for everyone complaining about the sound for Foster the People, I'm pretty sure it was shitty cuz White Denim blew the speakers with their insane loudness. So many people around me were asking security for earplugs as the lead guitarist kept motioning to the sound guys to turn it up. I danced my ass off for their set and it was one of my more sober shows too, which means they totally rocked it!
3 - Chromeo - best. afternoon. dance. party. ever! I absolutely loved the inflatables and that guy that was riding the dog over the crowd. so much fun!
4 - Bassnectar - Glowpocalypse!!! no other words are needed (it was amazing to see how many people remembered me all weekend 'cause of the glowsticks I was handing out right before. better than candy)
5 - I Will Follow You Into the Dark - Death Cab For Cutie - ok, I know this isn't a whole set, but it was the only song we caught, which just happens to be my (only?) favourite Death Cab song, and it was just one of those magic Sasquatch moments where all three of us had linked arms and were at the exact same moment in our highness feeling all the extra love around us as we stood at the back of the pit, swaying and singing together.
Honourable mentions: had way more fun jumping around to DFA1979 than I expected; MSTRKRFT and Glitch Mob and Bonobo in the dance tent were fantastic fun; Noah and the Whale saved me from what could have been a horrible afternoon of too much to drink and sun stroke; Robyn!! just wish I could actually remember a bit more of all the awesome dancing I know we shared.
Wow! I can't believe how hard it was to try to pick only 5 top performances (even with honourable mentions)-- I keep wanting to add in more bands, Young the Giant, Surfer Blood, Deerhunter, Matt and Kim, Sam Roberts, Twin Shadow, Aloe Blacc...
All in all, I'm not sure I caught a bad set -- the sound at Foster the People was probably my lowest point but I was still at the very front for their set and the energy of the crowd made up for it in spades. I think Monday was easily my best day where every band delivered and then some, and I met the best people to dance and party with; definitely ended on a very high note for me!

I really don't like any of these bands that come out of nowhere and are suddenly all over the radio (see: cage the elephant, young the giant, Fitz and the Tantrums...so basically all X "the" X bands...) I am just going to defend Fitz and the Peeps because I feel obligated. One of my favourite new bands, I really like their album. Sure, you could say that they sound like a million other bands of past which pull soul influences, and you'd be right, but I still really like them. They put on a really fun show and I got to high five Fitz afterwards. Also, what makes you say they are even all that big? The day after sasquatch they played Venue in Vancouver, which is 500 capacity as a club, and less during concerts since they dont open up the balcony, and I dont think it sold out. And what radio do you listen to? I've heard them on the radio maybe 3 times and I listen to the radio a reasonable amount since work trucks dont have CD players. OK rant over. I was also going to make a joke about you not liking the XX but I couldnt think of anything clever.

I had a really fun time at their show at Sasquatch and they're one of the reasons I'm going to Bumbershoot but they do feel like they all of a sudden blew up. I don't know what radio stations you listen to in Vancouver but on The Peak they currently have two singles that are in such heavy rotation sometimes I start and end a shift with Moneygrabber. And yeah, Venue isn't that big a venue to play (pretty sure I've seen the balcony open before though) but radio-wise they do feel like they've taken over the airwaves.

What Kymess jr said is kind of what I was trying to get across. They certainly don't play small venues but I was really just talking about the radio airplay they get. I rarely even listen to the radio and I've still managed to hear Moneygrabber 1000 times. I wish you'd come up with an XX joke cause that would have been great (love that band though).

So after all this, I definitely think missing !!! is my only major regret. Sounds like it was right up my alley.
I still ended up picking up Foster the Peoples album when I got back last week and I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I still don't understand the hype, but it's a pretty decent little album. Warrant is a great fucking track.

This is fair, I checked the wiki's for both groups and I guess it's not like they came out of nowhere. Foster the People were much more annoying to me because they were booked for all these music festivals when they had like one song total. They are just a clear example of a major label wanting a band that sounds like MGMT before MGMT went off the rails. I completely agree, I just think they're rise to fame is so predictable it's boring. Major Label pushes out a band that is an mgmt ripoff without any of the pretentiousness and gets all the radio stations to play it. I like to think that major labels don't have the pull they used to but bands like this remind you of how powerful they still are Cbats, I recently listened to an interivew with Foster the People, and based on their account, their rise to fame did not have anything to do with a major label. From what they said, they were simply a part-time band that realeased pumped up kicks on their myspace page, and it got enough hits from the right people that it reached a tipping point (thanks Malcolm Gladwell). They started seeing more and more people that they didn't know coming to their shows, and so they thought if they were to make a run for it, they'd better start practising more. So, I knew they were not going to live up to the hype that was caused by pumped up kicks. They have not been around long enough to really hazve their shit together yet. But I do not think it has much to do with their Major Label (or at least it didnt in the beginning).

I guess I dont listen to the radio as much as I thought because the Peak is usually my go to radio station and I have probably heard moneygrabber half a dozen times. I guess I have been sticking to Sasquatch music for the last 4 months so my radio listening hasnt been that strong lately. I do sympathise with listenting to the radio every day at work. I did that once for a summer job and I never realized how freaking repetitive the radio is. Its like the same 50-100 songs on repeat all day long.

There was a fairly interesting blog post from one of the guys that quite paramore a few months ago that included this tidbit: joshnfarro.blogspot.com/2010/12/josh-and-zacs-exit-statement.htmlWhen a band is booked for all of the big music festivals before anyone knows who they are, they have major label push behind them

"Top 5" is such a stupid number. Out of 80+ artists I think at the very least a top 10 list is more than acceptable. AND YES I SPENT MOST OF MY TIME WATCHING EDM AND DANCE ARTISTS BECAUSE I WAS DRUNK, HIGH, AND DANCING ALL WEEKEND. SHOVE IT. 1. Bassnectar 2. Skrillex 3. Major Lazer 4. MSTRKRFT 5. Flogging Molly 6. Chromeo 7. Matt & Kim 8. Robyn 9. Gayngs 10. The Head and the Heart Runner ups go to Sharon Van Etton, Macklemore, and DFA1979. The Glitch Mob would probably easily be in my top 10 if I could remember their damn set

I dunno. I was pretty underwhelmed by Glitch Mob's set.
Kudos for being able to piece together a top ten list, though. I saw WAY more amazing sets this year than I ever thought I would and my dry ol' brain could probably only work out a top seven at best. Is it possible that I was even more fucked up than Pea? (in all seriousness, yes, it is entirely possible).

I can only clearly remember one or two songs from each set I saw. It's really strange to me because up until recently I've been sober at all concerts and able to repeat the setlist to people who ask. I just need to find a happy medium and I'll be good to go.

(in all seriousness, yes, it is entirely possible). That's a bummer. Everyone I talked to loved their set. I only know I saw them because I have photographic proof haha. It's definitely possible that you were more fucked up than me, I just have a very outward and obnoxious way of showing it when I'm in a no-holds-barred environment like that. And yea, for a lineup that I wasn't too excited about, I enjoyed the ever loving shit out of just about every artist I caught! Ahhhh what a great Sasquatch ;D

Ain't it the fuckin' truth, though? I was NOT enthusiastic about the lineup this year, but I saw more awesome performances than I have ANY year, including 2010. And they were awesome performances from artists that I would have NEVER seen otherwise. Fuckin' Foo Fighters, how do they work?
