I heard that if you attempt to log on a music board in Arizona, you get re-routed to Color Me Bad's myspace.

Great thread you started here peatrick!! It's nice to talk to others, like you guys, about music. My friends, while still asking my opinion on bands, tend to refer to me as the "music snob". It's a term that i despise since it makes people like us seem like assholes when all we really want to do is share our passion and love for "good" music with others. Thanks again! I think that it would be cool if there was a way that we could all meet after one of the days and discuss our daily Sasquatch experiences in person! That might be a huge undertaking though...so the forum works just as well. I was just referred as a "music snob" a couple of days ago. Right after that statement I asked this person what type of music that would be considered "new" she liked. She mentioned MGMT. I then asked her if she heard the new album (which I not a fan of but didn't voice that). She hasn't listened to it yet and directed her to their web site. I then referred her to Passion Pit and Hot Chip as in my opinion are very similar. Long story short... she came to me yesterday thanking me for the suggestions. Music snob, huh? Not so much. I kind of like the music enthusiast tag. I love my hobby and can't wait to experience it live at the Gorge for the first time this year. Cheers to all on this board and I hope to share a beer or two with one of you!!

Yeah, the internet is the #1 reason why I have an eclectic taste in music. I like listening to Pandora and I sort of "rigged" the charts on rateyourmusic so that it will show me a ranking of albums that it thinks I would like but I haven't yet checked out. It actually works pretty well. But my roommates are always watching VH1 and MTV and it makes me very sad because 99% of the music on there is garbage but they don't realize what's out there. And they probably don't care either which is totally fine. Music is more important to some people than it is to others.

When you have over a thousand artists worth of music, and don't feel that you have enough music. I think that's a pretty good indicator of a serious music addiction. I look forward to Sasquatch, like a little kid waiting for christmas. Every time I think about it, I just get more excited.

It's great that you guys find all this great new music but unlesss you listen to music 15 hours/day every day then chances are you hear an amazing band which you will listen to 3 or 4 times and forget about them. I've tried to keep up with the bands that hae been announced this year and feel i've done a good job but I still only listened to about 1/4 of the bands (and i'm able to listen to music at work for 10 hours/day six days/week.
The bands that I have listened to though I have really gotten into, listened to all of the albums available and know what to expect. I just don't see how its possible make a good decision with minimal listens to a bands album/discography.

Word on Music, all music!! As devil's advocate I would also say there's even a smaller minority of us who (for reason's such as: play an instrument, play in a band, age, grown up in music crazy families, been to tons of shows, or other things ...) love music in an inside an out sort of way. I find (and this sounds snobby) from a long exposure and "education" you become waaaayyyyy more picky about the artists you're excited for. It's like, the more you know, the harder you need to look for what really gets you going. While there are many decent bands on the undercard, many are re-hashes or B-versions of other stuff already out there. Before I get pegged as someone who "only wants the classics man!", I love new music, but I want it to be exciting and NEW! I feel sometimes people are actively looking through the internet to find bands that "no one knows about", which doesn't always mean they are great. I would also add that Sasquatch is not the festival I would personally suggest as one that showcases GREAT new talent. Sasquatch is a popular west coast fest, it's fun, but it is what it is imo.

I'm pretty surprised that anyone would be underwhelmed by the lineup. I think it's amazing. The concern I have, which was one part of the OP's comment that seems to have not been picked up in the discussion, is some of the conflicts. Different acts overlapping with each other, and really wanting to see both. That's the nature of music festivals though, can't do much about it. I'm just excited as hell to get down there.

I kind of like the music enthusiast tag. (Footnote: Just for to eliminate any confusion, my statement earlier about not liking being called a music enthusiast was purely a Mitch Hedberg reference. I actually am completely fine being tagged as a music enthusiast.)
