Runaway did absolutely nothing for me the first couple times I heard it. Then all of a sudden I was like, whow....this is really awesome. Conversation 16 is absolutely brilliant too. "I was afraid I'd eat your brains." God I love him. Don't know if I've posted this here yet, but I think Runaway is an easy contender for best song of 2010.

You know I think I saw that, or at least something along the lines, and I could see that argument. I would love to make it, but I believe myself to be to biased and wouldn't wholly be able to take into account everything while dissociating the personal affiliations. Regardless it always sends the same shivers through me as Cardinal Song, Soho Riots, Theory of the Crows, and John's Star. It's actually eerie in how it felt so strong even on the first listen.

Can't talk about shiver-inducing National songs without mentioning Slow Show. I had always overlooked them until I heard that song. The first time I heard it I felt like I was going to cry haha.

You know I honestly thought that was in before Cardinal Song... When the chorus came out on their self titled all those years ago with Matt singing in that raspy voice on that lo-fi recording... It was eerie. Then listening to Boxer when it came out, and hearing it with so much more power and force, that eerie did became the straight shiver inducing experience I have now.

Hmm, am I misunderstanding your post or are you saying that the chorus from Slow Show was in a song on their selt-titled? I'm least familiar with that album so I'm not sure.

Seattle and Eastside heads: The National just announced a date at Marymoor Park on September 11th, so if there's an act conflicting with them at Sasquatch, you can catch them in September! Outdoors!

can't wait for the eruption of the crowd after the "praying for Pavement to get back together" line in 'So Far Around the Bend'

You know there hasn't been a show of there's I haven't seen them play it... Furthermore all the leak setlist suggest it to be a very real possibility... Lastly... I have maybe, erm cried to it myself.

When I saw them play last year in NYC they closed off with Mr.November. It was pouring rain, and Matt went into the crowd to sing the last half of the song. It was a pretty incredible end to the set, to say the least. Can't wait to see what they have in store this time around.

I love the new album...incredible. "Afraid of Everyone" and "Bloodbuzz Ohio" are unbelievable songs...I hate to sound like a broken record but I hope that Hold Steady/National conflict is not true with the addition of the Bigfoot Late stage. But I guess we won't know UNTIL THE FUCKING SCHEDUAL IS RELEASED!!!!!!!!!!!

can someone explain Matt's infatuation with brains? I really wish I knew, because I've often wondered the same thing... I never really, wholeheartedly liked the line, "so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain..." There was just something off about that. Really that's the only thing that's ever really annoyed me. When I saw them play last year in NYC they closed off with Mr.November. It was pouring rain, and Matt went into the crowd to sing the last half of the song. It was a pretty incredible end to the set, to say the least. Can't wait to see what they have in store this time around. This would be amazing, I've only seen them a couple of times and there wasn't once they played "Mr. November," but this would be quite amazing. ***On a side note to put my little wish list out there: Cardinal Song, Able, Looking for Astronauts, Daughter of the Soho Riots***

I'm thinking based on the setlists we've seen that it'll be a 'high violet' heavy set. Makes sense as they'd like to promote and hopefully sell a few copies of the record. Hearing anything prior to alligator is unlikely, and that's unfortunate. Still, super excited to see the new songs live.
