This board isn't Youtube. This is a board where Sasquatch fans come to discuss Sasquatch. If any of us want to see a Youtube clip of a band we are interested in, we can go to Youtube.
I'm game if you think one particular Youtube clip is the best. But when a two page thread is filled with more Youtube videos than comments, why even have a discussion? We can just reply by saying things like:
That was sick!!!!!!!!!!!! Holly rad Wow, totally rulzzz OMG LOL, I wuz thinking the same. R U?

i agree, one youtube video is fine, but who the fuck wants to scroll through 15 videos that they are never going to watch every time they want to see the bottom of a thread?

The posts with youtube videos have by far the most views since they have been up! I think they are a great way of checking out new bands or giving bands you had previous judgments against another chance. Festivals are a chance to discover new bands and and give you great experiences, I could talk about a band I love and want people to try and check out until the text runs out, or I can just show 'em and let them decide for themselves. The other thing is that, no offense to the board, but nobody's having any conversation on here!!!!!!!!!! Compared to other fest boards I can't believe how dead this is. Finally, don't go into posts that say "Sasquatch Videos" or "Check out MMJ Live", it may save you some grief, create your own posts and lets talk

I'll use my next 30 replies to paste multiple Pitchfork album reviews about bands we are discussing, and preface it with, "hey guys, you like Ween, check out what Pitchfork wrote about them."

Yeah, as long as we keep them in a few threads I could care less.

The second page of the Drive-By Truckers has 17 youtube clips in 15 posts. The second page of the Ween thread has 14 youtube clips in 15 posts. These are not the Killer Vids thread, or the check out MMJ live thread.
If I want to read Pitchfork reviews, I'll go to Pitchfork. If I want to watch youtube clips, I'll go to youtube. If I want to read Sasquatch boarders opinions on Ween and Drive-By Truckers, I come here.
It's not like I stay up late at night thinking about how much I dislike it. I don't get irritated at anything I read online. However, it is like clicking on a website and having 12 pop up adds, with banner adds everywhere. It can be an annoyance to many if overdone.
Instead of posting a three minute clip about a band you like, spend three minutes typing about a fun experience you had seeing that band live, because I want to read that.
It's not a terrible injustice to this board, it's just very sloppy.

I know what you mean man. I stopped listening to music altogether a few years ago. I just have my friends listen to the albums and then write me explanations about the music. Those, when accompanied by the lyrics make for a much richer experience than listening to the music itself.

You should get an Ipod, spend a couple weeks listening to the music your friends are talking about, then it will make your conversations with them even richer. Then, if you really dig the sound of certain bands, and feel an immediate urge to see what they might be like live without buying a ticket, you can go to youtube, and watch their videos. They have user ratings on that site, so you can just watch the five star videos, because they are generally the best. I wouldn't personally recommend watching live videos, because it takes away from the fun of seeing a band live for the first time. The element of surprise is always more mind blowing. You can thank me later. Here's to your new music discovery. Have fun man.

I hear what you're sayin' knowidyuh, but the fact that it takes only seconds to scroll past kinda makes it a none issue, plus for a band that I don't know about I am far more likely to get into their stuff from youtube/mp3's and then I will check out what's being said with a better understanding to where people are coming from. Also youtube is full of crap and crappy vidoe/sound so I thank everyone who has done the leg work to show me the good stuff. Try searching "Ween live"" on youtube without knowing what you're looking for, wouldn't do that to my worst enemy

When given a multiple choice question with the options of a, b, c, or d as the answers, choosing the option c is usually a good guess.

It is true that searching a bands name on YouTube can lead to some very strange results, its nice having someone with knowledge of the band post the video for you. The comment about Ween on youtube is so true, none of their good videos come up at first.

FROM INTERSTATEEIGHT "Here's how youtube works, everyone: 1.) Pick your video. Let's say I want to appreciate the fine musicianship of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who do not care about image and are Legitimate Artists (R). So I pick the following video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=06Dql7EiMWE2.) Then, click the youtube tag. It will look like this: (youtube)(/youtube) EXCEPT instead of parentheses, there will be brackets. 3.) Then, take the part of the link that comes after watch?v= which, in this instance, is 06Dql7EiMWE. 4.) Then, put THAT between the youtube tags. It will look like this, but once again -- brackets instead of parentheses: (youtube)06Dql7EiMWE(/youtube)" I say blame this guy What is wrong with awesome videos by awesome bands? ?

People that are familiar with a band posting their favorite youtubes is much more of a service than a hindarence.

I know from being a regular on a non-music web board that there is a large cross-section of the population who despise videos and GIFs on message boards, and would spend two minutes browsing this Lineup/Artists forum before deciding to never come back, which is why I started the thread.
This board is obviously very new (no one has 600 posts). It means we can make the board what we want it to be. If we want to scare off all the sarcastic intellectuals, and cater to lingo typing youngsters, we can easily do this. It all depends on what we want.
I never said the videos piss me off, or that I dislike youtube. I said it is being overdone, and said it is sloppy, like posting your wish lists in the rumors thread. It's about maintaining some sort of organization on a board with virtually no supervision.
If we want the Killer Vids thread to become the greatest collection of worthy youtube videos any web board has ever seen, we can do that. If we want to lower our maturity level 12 notches and excessively post more youtube videos in other threads out of spite, we can do that too. I don't care either way, it's all about community.
