Sennheiser mx 580's.
I needed buds at a reasonable price and they already blow ipod buds out of the water. I know ipod ones suck but they're what I was used to.
One day I'm gonna purchase super awesome headphones and never talk to a real person again.

Yup, I also own Sennheiser's. HD 595's to be precise.
I'm fairly certain every person on public transit hates me.

Are they the kind that everyone around can hear what you're listening to?

i'll just say --- i've tried listening to DFA several times. i've wanted to like them. but despite the never-ending lobbying from both Shax and Geno - i just can't get into them. Personally, i think their music is fucking terrible. That's the beauty of music. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Pretty. I'm pretty bummed I'm missing Gayngs or else they'd be the next band I'm listening to on these. I'm in full Sasquatch mode right now so I'm trying to stick to reviewing everyone I'm seeing. Who else would be fantastic on headphones?

Who else would be fantastic on headphones? The Antlers (Hospice) Beach House (Teen Dream) Bassnectar (Timestretch EP) The Glitch Mob (Drink The Sea) Wye Oak (Civilian)

I haven't listened to the Antlers before but 2 recommendations in a row means that I will be checking them out.
Thanks!

I usually rock closed-back Sennheisers (HD-280s) as opposed to open-back ones. Open-back ones sound better for sure, but these don't annoy all of my coworkers.

Ya, they (HD 595's) are definitely geared towards home listening more than travel. I clearly have no regard for my fellow transit rider.
On top of the obvious sound bleeding, the headphones have a pretty high impedance of 50 Ohms, which makes them sound quieter thru an iPod or iPhone since mp3 players are generally only built for about 40 Ohms max.

Timestretch EP is a great recommendation too... and Glitch Mob. Empty, your taste in music is impeccable. Barrel - Enjoy the Antlers. Hospice is a concept album that is meant to be listened to start to finish, so I recommend doing so rather than sampling random tracks... and be ready for a roller-coaster ride!

I'd think about it this way, they probably listen to shitty music. You probably do not. You're doing them a favor

The 280s have a 64-Ohm impedance (they're meant more for studio / DJ work), so I know exactly what you mean. The advantage of being closed back is less outside noise bleeds in, so they're actually listenable at somewhat lower volumes in a noisy environment.
