hell yes!!! The Flaming Lips' "CHRISTMAS ON MARS" Debuts at Sasquatch! along with exclusive U.F.O. performance
THE FLAMING LIPS have confirmed only a handful of live shows this Summer and current Intergalactic law dictates that their UFO only travels when the vibes are correct. While The Lips await Interstellar Time Travel Permits, the UFO has been scheduled to touch down only in Washington State. The long awaited, oft-mentioned psychological fantasy adventure flick, "CHRISTMAS ON MARS," will make its screen debut at this year's Sasquatch Festival, on Sunday, May 25. The following evening, the UFO will descend and The Lips will rock one of the country's most beautiful large open-air venues on Monday, May 26.

Any idea where and when they'll be debuting it. I mean are they going to show it during the Cure cause who's going to watch a video you'll be able to download in a month rather than see a live performance.

I am guessing it is going to be mainstage, right after Cold War Kids.

It won't be main stage. People will not want to watch a movie over a show. I'm guessing it will premier at the chill out tent.

It is strange it receives a billing ahead of Cold War Kids but chill out tent makes much more sense to me. It wouldn't even be dark by that time anyway. Do they show something every night at the chill out tent? First timer here so I didn't know such a thing existed.

Depending on how long the movie is, they could probably fit it in between sets. Seems like theyd want to show it on the big screens, and it usually takes a good chunk of time for a band to set up.

Eww I hope not. 20 minute installments, again, during daylight, would be no way to premiere a movie. Now that I know there's a chill out tent that seems the only way to go.

Taken from the FlamingLips.com
"It is not intended for 'Christmas on Mars' to be released at conventional movie theaters. Instead, a DVD release will be preceeded by a number of screenings at rock venues. In true Flaming Lips style, the plan is to use more than the standard movie screening equipment and turn each screening into 'a big visceral event'. Speaking to mtv.com, Wayne has explained, "We want to show the movie with a mega-sound system and snow machines and just make it like a bigger event than what has become the typical movie-going experience. I'm hoping that people can watch this movie while they drink beer, smoke cigarettes, and have a good time.""
So now I'm leaning toward the notion of it being Main Stage but not as set filler. This sounds like its going to get the full Flaming Lips treatment.

My "chill out tent" comment was more of a joke, referring to the Hold Steady's song about a chick and dude who both OD'd at a festival and ended up in the medical tent, ie, the chill out tent. The movie from what I have heard is almost two hours long, so the only way it makes the main stage is if it is preceding the first act of the day, read 11am. But they apparently have a comedy "tent", and as much as I like comedy, I only see myself there if there is not a cool band playing at that time. As is, Saturday night is my "get wasted" night, and I will show up Sunday to see Franti, drink beer in the beer garden during DCFC, then wander down to see the Cure. The only band movie I thought was worth two shits was 200 Motels, and I would agree with everyone who thinks it sucked.

That whoosh sound was your obscure reference flying over this board's head I guess.

"Christmas on Mars" will not be shown on a stage at Sasquatch. The Lips are building their own tent to show the movie in. Quote from Kliph, the Lips' drummer on the Flaming Lips messageboard:
". . . my arms are sore beyond belief from swinging a sledgehammer all day helping put up this tent that we're going to show "Christmas On Mars" in at Sasquatch and a few other festivals."
And earlier, he also mentioned Michael Ivins, the bassist, working on figuring out the surround sound for the movie.

This is great news. I just hope it doesn't clash with any bands I wanted to see.
