It was a pleasant set to sit on the hill and shift gears from day chips to night chips. Unlike the Shins, who nearly made me lose my high altogether

The Head and the Heart just played last year, so I think we're safe there. You will never be safe from The Head & The Heart. They just played last year though so they would seem less likely.

I've got all these artists and their corresponding festivals in a spreadsheet. Now just trying to find the magic formula. Not sure it's possible though.... I'll take another look in the morning.

Alright, here's a link to a spreadsheet with all of 523 artists performing at one of the 8 festivals listed with crossovers on this thread. You can see which festivals each one is performing at and the total number of appearances. I was playing around with a bunch of formulas last night to try to compare and contrast the crossovers to narrow things down, but I'm not sure it's very accurate or even possible without knowing the base source of information (The Sasquatch lineup). The best method at this point may just be to make another column highlighting the likelihood based on other factors (travel, PNW shows, played last year, etc.) Hopefully there's just an Excel God among us that can sort this all out. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dtHx1xA92GS4Nl1I3MbNyiIM9OGENciv3kEiq4X3CRc/edit?usp=sharing

Someone tried this a couple years ago and was never heard from again. Don’t stare too long into the abyss.

Luckily it was easy enough to import all of the data.

You won't be able to find any concrete answers since the pool of bands (~100) per fest gives us too much variance.
What you could do is come up with a point system though.
If Festival A has 4 crossovers, every band on that poster gets 4 points.
If Festival B has 8 crossovers, every band on that poster gets 8 points.
If a band is playing A & B, then they are at 12 points, and you keep adding.
At the end you will have a list of bands with points, rank those from highest to lowest, and we have our "most likely" bands to play.
At this point we could start ruling out bands based on tours, played last year, etc, but this will give you the most useful look at all the data in my opinion.
This system will be heavily biased towards predicting bands that are on multiple festival posters (Eminem etc), and will under represent unique bookings that might only be on one other poster, but it's the best you can do with the data we have.

Also, if you want to get really fancy.
4 crossovers = 4 points is probably a little too simplistic. It would probably be more accurate to also work in the total number of bands on the poster to find what percent overlap there is.
4 crossovers out of 40 bands is way more information than 4 crossovers out of 100.
So ideally you would take the number of crossovers divided by the total number of bands on the poster, and then use the percentage to dictate how many points that is worth per band on that poster.
There is probably also an argument that the greater the number of crossovers, the more valuable that information is. so if 4 crossovers = 4 points, 8 crossovers is probably worth more like 9 or 10 points, but I don't know how to quantify this.
