I think maybe Chud was in the front for Gogol and the crowd breaking down the barrier scared him, then Eugene was splashing red wine everywhere and ruined his good shirt so he got disgusted and walked away.

Oh yeah, and did anyone know what was up with them clearing everyone out of the pit before of Monsters and Men?

I was front and center for Gogol Bordello right where the barrier split, that was insane! They had literally 30 security guards run in and hold it in place and it was sliding everywhere with me and all the other people in the front row on it. Then one of the crew for Gogol jumped over the gate with a hammer and took a few minutes of banging before he finally got it to fit back together. Amazing concert memory. I'm guessing they cleared the pit so they could properly fix the barrier.

Oh yeah, and did anyone know what was up with them clearing everyone out of the pit before of Monsters and Men? Probably related to this. The crowd broke the barrier during Gogol's first song and the security guards had to hold it up for the whole set.

We were on the right side of the stage and we were wondering why there was a torrent of security guards running in.

I find Gogol to be a gimmick. They play crappy eastern euro folk rock and run around like a bunch of idiots yelling into microphones. Nothing about their sound or their schtick appeals to me. I've actually seen them three times now, and the past two times I've walked away. Just don't get it. Too each their own, however.

Seriously, Hot Chip was unbearable to me. The band itself was alright but I chose to claw my way out of the crowd halfway through their set because the one singer's voice was one of the worst things I had heard all day.

I am, however, pretty bummed that I skipped out on seeing RTJ for the 4th time.

Any of my top 5 could easily take the #1 spot.
1. Little Dragon 2. James Blake 3. St. Vincent 4. Modest Mouse 5. Fuzz 6. Tame Impala 7. Schoolboy Q 8. Kendrick Lamar 9. Hot Chip 10. The War on Drugs
Honorable mentions: SleaterKinney (prob would've made the top 10 if I hadn't been on the hill and less distracted), Mo, Twin Peaks, SBTRKT, Action Bronson, Glass Animals (did not expect to dig any of those!)
On the hip-hop debate: I went in with such ridiculously high expectations of Kendrick that it fell a little short... but that's all relative, he and his band are such dynamic and talented musicians that it was still super enjoyable. Even though we only got one TPAB jam, he slayed everything he played. I was annoyed that we heard the same song multiple times but I watched a video back today and was blown away by his energy and passion. He was much better than RTJ in my opinion. In fact, I have to say I found RTJ to be the least interesting hip hop set of the weekend but it's really hard for me to get behind any performance with no live drums- especially hip-hop. Although, Action Bronson didn't have a drummer either and I thought he was better than RTJ as well.

I haven't seen them live though. A good chunk of my friend group rave about Gogol but I can never make it through more than a couple of songs. I would check them out live still. I would check pretty much any band out live at least once.

Like watching SBTRKT was incredible, even though I thought his last album was trash. Just seeing a guy run around the stage layering with an insane amount of equipment was awe-inspiring.

Since you are pooping on the amazing Hot Chip set, I must say this is how I felt about Run the Jewels except they didn't have a band. I gave them a shot my dude but it felt more like a police raid than a music concert to me. Swimming through that crowd to get away from the cheese was my least favorite part of the weekend, but luckily my nerves were soothed by the mellow sounds of Sohn in the banana shack.

Gogol Bordello is high culture party gypsie rock.
Andrew WK is low culture party rock.

Yeah, live shows can change my opinion of a band sometimes (good or bad). I sold all of my Fucked Up albums after seeing them live. I just couldn't understand why I ever liked them after watching them.
