Nick is like the hagiologist of Kraftwerk. I certainly got drunk enough to [think that I was] speak[ing] like one that Thursday.

I don't have much to add to what Drew said but he's spot on. It's not so much that this board is as mean as other forums, the internet in general is mean, it's that this board is very cliquish and scares away new people. I don't know that this is the worst thing in the world or have any ideas on how to fix this but I do understand why Snacks would be reluctant to embrace this place in any official way.

I bet Adam Zacks doesn't even go to Sasquatch.

Honestly, we're a bit nicer to females, and at one point there were so few of them. Because of the ratio and all.

The peen/poon ratio on this board is off the charts compared to most.

The ratio is much improved

I don't think it really matters if this place is better or worse than the rest of the internet. It still isn't welcoming. He didn't compare it to anything else because there isn't anything else and that's what makes it even worse.
We are rude and inappropriate to new people, myself included. People on this board are biased, they don't treat people equally, and there is hazing. I can say as someone who has had an extremely tumultuous time on this board that some of what I received was deserved and a whole hell of a lot of it wasn't. I have fed trolls, hazed newbs with everyone else. Sometimes more than anyone else. I totally admit that but I also understand the other side.
Sasquatch is a much different festival than for example, Coachella. Everyone on that board is ridiculous but also that festival is ridiculous. The average Coachella patron wants to see things but also be seen; you will get a different group there. This board heralds Sasquatch as more than that. As a familial, other worldly, united festival juxtaposed with the incredible natural beauty of the Gorge. And it is. But the core group of members here are close knit and we may want to promote that it's one big huge bear hug of an event (like Snacks clearly also does) but it's confusing to haze people and then say "let's share a beer at Sasquatch because it's the Sasquatch spirit" after you've just been fed to the dogs online. You can say don't take it "too seriously" all you want but people still have feelings.
If we ever are going to be legitimized or supported in anyway by Sasquatch itself, it completely makes sense that we need to clean up our act a lot in complying with Adam's vision. You don't want your online ambassadors talking shit to people and telling people their questions are fucking stupid no matter how benign it seems in comparison to the rest of the internet.

Is there anybody on here who actually wants this board to be official in some capacity?

I don't know. I should clarify, I don't know if anyone here does want the board to be legitimized in any way, I was just adding my opinion in terms of why Snacks would mention publicly this place being unwelcoming and what not.

I think it would be totally cool to be legitimate - to have an actual Sasquatch representative on here to chat with on occasion, maybe offer a one-day VIP upgrade for winning the lineup competition, shit like that. It's not like we would be censored - I mean, we censor ourselves enough as it is. I mean, what's the problem with it?

What exactly makes it official? Can the official board supported by a for profit organization still be hosted on probaords? Would it have to be rebuilt, and hosted somewhere else through the official site? Would outside forces take control? Would the mods start getting paychecks?

I think Snacks threw the board a few bones in the lineup - Primus, John Talabot, other bands that don't have broad appeal or PNW roots or huge indie creds, but that we rave about all the time - wouldn't it be cool to have more of that?

Would it have to be rebuilt, and hosted somewhere else through the official site? Would outside forces take control? Would the mods start getting paychecks? Hypothetically, if the board became legitimate and followed a standard like Coachella's board the following changes could happen: - Messageboard Staff would get free tickets to the festival or other financial compensation. - The Messageboard would be hosted through the official website and would appear on the official Sasquatch site. - There would be more inherent marketing for the board. - The layout and colors would be dictated by new annual theme of the official website. I think that's mostly it...for cons: it would BALLOON in size but that might not be a full "con". It would disperse the presence of "cliques" from the outside perspective.

Adam Snacks is Stamper I mean, we do have the same initials. STAMPER CAN WE GET YOUR OPINION ON THIS? My opinion on how needlesses abrasive we are to newcomers has been well documented. There are a lot of things I'd like to see changed, but in order for those things to change, people have to actually want them to change. TL:DR - There are two types of people in this world: Those who have seen Rocky IV and those who haven't.
