Big acts? What does that even mean? This years headliners managed to skew closer to my own taste (well, my taste in the 1990's anyway), but headliners alone are the absolute worst way to base a decision on going to a festival like this.
I think that all of this speaks to the relative fragmentation of music right now. There are relatively few "big" acts anymore, and so it is up to the consumer to find out what they like. It isn't even about "I haven't even heard of ____________ " before; it is "There are going to be 75 different bands there, and I need to figure out which ones I am interested in." Popularity doesn't even factor into it.
Check out the music share section for the podcasts and the downloads to help you with this. Personally, I found Citizen Cope to be offensively bad, but that doesn't make it bad. Since finding out the lineup, I have made more than a few discoveries of bands I absolutely need to see this year (The Shaky Hands, Throw Me the Statue - both of which I hadn't "heard of" before).
It's all about discovery.

Well you did say "big name acts". More people have heard and bought the albums of those I listed is all I'm saying.
And calling DCFC and MM MTV I think is way off kilter. Both have been big names in the college radio scene for over a decade and have just recently gained commercial notoriety.
edited: I didn't see there was a whole other page saying basically the same. Either way I hope you do find something to make it worthwhile for you, but if what you refer to as indie is not for you I'm not sure Sasquatch is either really.

London- I'm giving you props for 'finding' the blow last year. To be honest, I never would have thought Modest would be on the festival circuit like they are now when I was listening to them 10+ years ago. And I still love it when they play an old song like 'broke' live...
But listening to this thread I have no clue who the spree?? are
and I think of myself as pretty musically adapt
enjoy the fest!

Broke is a GREAT song. Building Nothing Out of Something is my all time MM favorite album.

So her an Dan Bejar (I think thats how you spell his name) will be performing with the New Pornos eh? That is pretty awesome. I might have to make seeing them a higher priority.
EDIT: Destroyer plays from 4:45 to (assuming it will take 20 minutes to set up for Crudo) 5:40 and the New Pornos start at 5:25. It's a small conflict... but that is a weird one, isn't it? Anyways, I will probably skip the New Pornos in order to get a good spot for Crudo.

The link you posted was referring to the 2007 Neko Case Sasquatch performance. I've still got my fingers crossed that she'll be there with the New Pornographers, though!

Not really - Dan only plays a couple of songs with the New Pornographers, and only in a vocal capacity, so I could see them ushering Dan over to sing "Jackie Dressed in Cobras" or "Myriad Harbour" near the end of the set. I saw Destroyer in Calgary this past Wednesday - the lineup right now are killing it live - so good. So good.

I think it is highly, highly unlikely that Neko Case will show for Sasquatch. In 2006 she got hailed on and her set was cancelled, in 2007 her bass player got in a car accident on his way to the show, this year she broke her ankle...if I were her, there's no way I would risk it . That said, it's a huge disappointment...I saw the New P's with both Neko and Dan earlier this year, and it was the first time that I really felt like I had seen a good New P's show. Letter from an Occupant with Neko on vocals was fucking awesome. I really like Carl Newman's voice, but I really think it's more suited to the studio than the stage...they need Neko and Dan to give it the extra oomph.

Apparently, Neko is still on tour with NP's, so chances are good she will be there as part of the NP's (but not solo). There is a break between their last show and Sasquatch, but I wouldn't rule it out!

That's awesome news...where did you hear that? I've been searching all over the net and all I can find is the announcement that she broke her foot.

I can't say for sure - other than I read that she broke her foot, but was planning to rejoin them a few weeks later. www.nekocase.com/travelogue/2008/05/ - this recent blog post puts her with the NP's lin Japan/Australia, thought I can't find any other information than that. Hmmm.
