I've listened twice now, and love it more than I thought I would. Boom.
Certain bands just will not disappoint me, so I feel comfortable assuming I will love the rest of an album after sampling a couple of singles and the first few tracks of it. The National is one of them.

I love the new Vampire Weekend so far but I'm going to cbats it a few more times. I mean listen to it a few more times. Today will be devoted to The National. But I would like to add:
Mikal Cronin - MCII Laura Stevenson - Wheel OMD - English Electric
The song "Turn Away" by Mikal Cronin is my new jam and the song of the year so far. I've listened to it seventeen times in seven days according to iTunes.

To me this thread stands as the "rough draft" best of lists, there is always a thread later in the year in nov/dec where we all wean our choices down to top 10 of the year...I would rather have all the albums I really enjoyed in one easy to find post than risk forgetting about an album I really liked at the beginning of the year that has gone on the back burner due to newer releases...

That's exactly what I view this thread as, which is why I have no problem throwing an album on here without dissecting it for a month. It's really just a collective storehouse for our end of the year lists.

I've been a huge Laura Stevenson fan for the past couple of years, but this album sounded like a homogenized piece of shit to me, production wise.

I think I'm in between Pea and Cbats ITT. I will usually post an album after at least 3 listens, with the exception of Monomania, which I was ready to post before track 3.
I'm in the middle of Nightmare Ending for the first time right now though and I can definitely Pea this shit. It's his magnum opus.

I would like to add:
FIDLAR - s/t
Also, I hope it is an appropriate sig below (taking only a part of Burrito’s post). If not let me know I will bury that shit.
Also, I don’t see that The Appleseed - Illumination Ritual was added. Spanks.

This is the first Laura Stevenson album I've listened to. It's got major cheese factor, production-wise, but the songs were rousing to me. Maybe this means I'll like the rest of Laura Stevenson a lot?

Yeah for me too. The first half is fucking transcendent. The second half can't hold up but is good enough.
Step--> Diane Young causes tremors in my asshole, in a good way.

Worship You > Ya Hey is a pretty killer one-two punch in the second half though. I absolutely love those two tracks. And let's talk about the last minute and twenty seconds of Hannah Hunt. Holy shit. It makes me feel...

The fuck, there's a new Spacehog album out and I had to hear about it from fucking Magnet magazine like I was fucking twenty years old. You assholes are letting me down.
Anyway, adding the fuck out of As it Is on Earth to my list.

Am I the only one who absolutely hates the artificial pitching up/down of the vocals on the new Vampire Weekend? Diane Young would be a perfect song if they just let Ezra sing low naturally, but the ProTools editing just does not stop pissing me off. Especially because he does end up going low naturally by the end of the track. Ugh. Maybe it'll grow on me, but right now I just do not get it.

I fucking love the vocals on Diane Young. They help make it one of my favorites on the album.
