Come on now. This board needs to stop pretending that the U2s and Paul McCartneys of the world have been opening for Pretty Lights for the past two decades. He's a middle-tier EDM artist that just happened to get the break of a lifetime at Sasquatch because they didn't feel like shelling out the cash for an expensive headliner. Except that Snacks probably got swindled into still shelling out the cash. Anyone who thought it wise to "master mind" the cake thing from last year is probably also very bad at EVERYTHING.

Girl Talk is your number one but you're only seeing Pretty Lights because of the hype? Come on now. This board needs to stop pretending that the U2s and Paul McCartneys of the world have been opening for Pretty Lights for the past two decades. He's a middle-tier EDM artist that just happened to get the break of a lifetime at Sasquatch because they didn't feel like shelling out the cash for an expensive headliner. I wasn't trying to imply that at all, I was just surprised to see GT as a #1 with little interest or knowledge of PL. Didn't mean to come off arrogant, I was genuinely curious. And I am not lumping PL in with the greatest artists of all time, but I think it's quite fair to say GT and PL are in the same realm? Yay for abbreviations.

And I am not lumping PL in with the greatest artists of all time, but I think it's quite fair to say GT and PL are in the same realm? Ehhh I really don't think so. Girl Talk is his own little entity in the world of music. I know plenty of EDM fans that despise Girl Talk, and plenty of Girl Talk fans that couldn't care less about EDM. Not implying that that is the standard, but aside from using a computer, there really isn't anything electronic about Girl Talk.

I agree with you Pea, and the live videos I've seen of Girl Talk are kind of underwhelming. His studio stuff is a lot better but obviously he can do a lot more in a non-live setting. I'm hoping that in the moment with the energy and the setting his set at Sasquatch will be entertaining, and from the reviews of people that have seen him, I'm sure it will be.

On the contrary, I think his live shows look like an amazing party! I can't wait to finally see him at Coachella.

It's because I've seen Girl Talk live before and can vouch for how much I loved the show. I don't know anything about Pretty Lights aside from what I've read in this thread and videos on Youtube. I'm probably 85% indie/rock fan - 15% EDM, but I always look forward to at least one big dance party at sasquatch. If Pretty Lights is the biggest one, so be it, I'm there.

I'm not huge on hyping shows for people who have never seen them because I feel like they can only be let down. Still, have to say for me Girl Talk live set is infinately better than in studio. It's nice that he does mixes live that were not on his studio album so that you feel like he personalized the show a bit, rather than just pressing play on his album. That said, I admit he still is effectively pressing play and goin with it, and the show is nothing without his on stage energy and the dancing masses. So in that way I guess it's like any DJ set.

Just some personal insight, Girl Talk seems to be able to do much much more live than in the studio. How he manages to transition songs, just like he does on his album, live, he also manages to toss in varied... remixes... I guess in there too. (Although in that it's a remix of a remix, and he remixes damn near everything, I guess it's a new song?) Point being, live, he's better than his records IMO. I've seen Pretty Lights before, and yes it's a "show," and a good show if you've never seen it before. It will be fun, you will dance, (assuming you're watching/hearing, and are capable of standing on your own; in which case if you cannot stand on your own you may very well be doing some weird crab dance on the ground that will either look like a seizure or a really retro break dancing move that you will then see replicated by someone the following day so that they can continue to be "hip," and in the "know.") It's not impossible to compare the two as long as it's in the category of "Can I dance to this music?" and the answer to both is a resounding yes. Aside from that I think Pea has said something similar, but they're not really in the same musical genre at all.

Good time for a mile-marker post!
1. Explosions in the Sky 2. Mogwai 3. Spiritualized 4. Feist 5. Bon Iver 6. Beirut 7. Metric 8. Siversun Pickups 9. Childish Gambino 10. Pickwick
Despite having already seen a few of the artists on this list, I've never seen them at the gorge and tried to in 2009, so I'm pretty excited to cross that off my list. A few names may drop from a "top ten" position, but these will all stay anticipated at the very least.

They will both be fun, I promise. Girl Talk will kind of be like this:
Pretty lights will be more like this:
Both look fun to me.
