Yeah people tell me that all the time. Unfortunately I literally can't stand Final Fantasy. Not into turn based RPGs?

Not really, no. Some of 'em I don't mind -- I really like Paper Mario and Earthbound -- but Final Fantasy in particular was so long and dry and full of itself that I just couldn't do it.

I spent more time playing Tony Hawk 2 than probably any other game ever made. +1 I could do the entire first level in under 90 seconds. Fuck I loved that game.

I missed the old Tony Hawk games. So good.

I just learned that this wasn't actually SOAD like it said on my ex-boyfriend's itunes playlist, but I always got a kick out of it!

A life without Mario is no life at all. Mario is my people.

Just popping into this thread to say that you're all nerds. I literally had this queued up 5 minutes after this thread was made, but decided against posting it. But yeah, I am glad you did it. I mean, a video game thread is nerdy, but a video game soundtrack thread? C'mon?

I don't see how that's nerdy. It's music.

Just to clarify, I don't think the term nerdy should be taken in a bad way, at all ( it's very fucking apparent that we are all nerds of some kind here). That being said, talking about the backing musical track to a video game, reeks of nerdiness, sorry dude.

I wasn't taking it in a bad way, I just don't see how it's nerdy. It's music, a lot of which is orchestrated. I could see how listening to a bunch of 8-bit music could be nerdy though.

Oh, I didn't mean the actual music, taken out of context, it is fucking beautiful ( the orchestrated stuff I mean). I was getting more at the fact that you play enough video games to actually pay attention to the fact that there are other noises occurring. Beyond the sound of your rifle blasting away at aliens and the like. Oh and just so we're clear, I don't play video games, at all. So I don't know if they are still featuring aliens and the like, or if they have moved on to bigger and better things.

Video games have become so advanced, a lot of them are just interactive movies now.

And speaking of games where you blast away aliens: probably one of the best songs to come from a game.

We are not going to have the 'Video games have advanced to the point where they should be considered an art form similar to film' discussion. I love me a good game and they for sure can tell a great story. They can even be 'cinematic', but they're always going to be video games. My willing suspension of disbelief doesn't extend to watching a character die seventy-two times.

This thread is going to die quickly unless we change it to the sitcom theme music thread. How about that Friends theme? Is there a song that gets you clapping along more than that one? Speaking of friends, how about "Thank you for being a friend." Love those crusty old hags.

Man I hate to say it but the Rembrandts (who recorded the theme song for Friends) contributed a cover of XTC's "Making Plans for Nigel" to the XTC tribute album A Testimonial Dinner and it is one of the best covers I've ever heard. I'm ashamed to say that I kind of even like it better than the original.
I support the change in this thread's direction. How 'bout a little love for Mike Post?
