Ok, I'll do this again... Conor had a brother who drowned in a bathtub when they were both children. Conor went on to write roughly ninety bagillion songs about it, get rich and contract herpes from some emo chick(s); his brother stayed dead. WRONG KID DIED

I would note that the kid dying story is untrue, he made it up. It does not specify on that thread.

(Except that story is fake and that never happened so WKD is irrelevant)
I have to present a fair and balanced case here.

I promise you I won't be too impressed to yell WRONG KID DIED. And I have no reservations about messin' with a bunch of wine-drunk teenage girls in skinny jeans. I'm just glad Iron & Wine are playing the mainstage now, so I don't have to miss the chant!

Switch is bringing a hammer to Sasquatch so he can murder people who don't enjoy Bright Eyes. Pass it on.

Well personally that is why I think it is funny. If it were actually true, I think it would be a terrible thing to say. But Conor made up the dumb story anyway, so the joke is on him. And also the people who are all super into Bright Eyes that don't understand that or think that the story is true get so mad and I just think that is funny. I am a firm believer that you just can't take yourself that seriously or you are going to just be pissed all the time.

Just to make a slight correction, Conor didn't make that story up. He sang about it in a song and people made up the rumor so Conor perpetuated it in his next album. He talks about how he wrote the original song singing about another persons experience and somehow a rumor spread that it was about his brother so he went along with that as a joke.

The finer points and the subtext of the actual situation might not come across in a three-word chant.

Nope. But the sun will be shining and the gorge will be beautiful. WKD will be yelled and weed smoke will be smelled. Ah Sasquatch!

If he sang about it first and then perpetuated it, isn't that the same thing as making it up?

I guess what I was trying to say was that it was just a song lyric that had no meaning (it has meaning but not in this context), people thought it had meaning and so that spread among the media, so Conor went along because he thought it was funny that people took his song so literally.

So here's the verdict after watching a part of the SXSW performance: They're a hell of a lot better than when I saw them back in 07. I especially liked the fact that they arranged the song differently than they did on their albums. With that being said, I STILL don't like them enough to sit there and watch them for a bloody hour and half (I only watched a part of the videocast). Again, I'll probably watch them from the hills if there's nothing else going on around the time. EDIT: I watched a little bit more of the performance and I gotta say, I'm with HG in terms of the audience. Chicks yelling "I LOVE YOU <Blank>" is one of my biggest concert pet peeves and there seems to be way too many girls wanting to suck Conor's dick for me to handle. Again, this probably won't be a problem if I sit on the hill On another note, the word "Jejune" was in my Essential GRE Words flash cards. Enjoy the show Switch!

How far did you make it? Was the sun down? The show gets really good once the sun sets and the moon starts coming out. Its cool that you actually took the time to check it out though.
