I poke my head in here occasionally. I peeled and diced a carrot for the first time in my life tonight. I don't particularly like carrots, nor have I ever cooked with them, but I'm following the recipe (sort of). I had to use a cheese slicer to peel it.
Is there a better feeling than finishing chopping? Chopping is like foreplay, it's necessary, and it doesn't suck at all, but when you're done, that's when the magic happens.
I've also never cooked with barley before, but it had that familiar aroma while I was browning it. I've got a beef, vegetable and barely soup brewing. I had to feed her a half a bottle of wine, but I know I'm getting some tonight.

I made a apple pecan chipotle spice cake for my housewarming party on Saturday. Aside from having more bite than I expected, it turned out awesome. It also has the dubious honor of being the first cake I've ever made where I wanted to drink more beer while I was eating it. Dangerous to be sure. Sugar + alcohol = awesome + hangover.

Mmmm I've never made soup but it seems pretty easy. Beef veg barley might Judy be the motivation I need to give it a try!

Soup is the best 'cause you just throw as much stuff as you can in a pot and let ist simmer for a couple of hours and it generally turns out awesome. Not always though...my cajun squash soup really fucked up my soup record.

It gives you a sense of accomplishment to see a carrot go from one state into another and then into a tasty soup. How was it?

Chopping is my favourite part of cooking.
I have never in my life heard of someone peeling a carrot with a cheese slicer. I didn't think something like that was even possible.

I have never in my life heard of someone peeling a carrot with a cheese slicer. I didn't think something like that was even possible. There are several types of cheese slicers. You Canadians have such strange lingo, I wouldn't be surprised if you are picturing me peeling a carrot with a staple gun. It's this, which is basically like a carrot/potato peeler, but more dangerous:

In Canada it's known as a "Cheese Slicre".

In Canada it's known as a "Cheese Slicre". Good call. Let's combine minds, and call it... "Cheuse Slicre"

I was thinking of something along the lines of a cheese wire. Carry on...

Although I've already texted you a similar comment, I wasn't going to leave you hanging. I don't have a lot of paragraph response time during the day. I add serrano peppers to everything I cook, but I might have added a bit too much (like 16 peppers). They made it a lot spicier than I expected. Either way, it's one of the best soups I've ever eaten. People who make soup for a living replace the expensive parts with cheap parts, but I want a lot of fucking cow or chicken in my soup. I made it happen.
