Here's an update on my spreadsheet, I only have 2 in my dislike column so please recc me bands I won't like so I can put them there The Garden! Maybe they'll be interesting live, but I think that the song on the Sasquatch site is terrible.

JAPANDROIDSBIO (Wikipedia) Japandroids are a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, consisting of Brian King (guitar, vocals) and David Prowse (drums, vocals). Formed in 2006, the band rose to prominence following the release of their debut album Post-Nothing (2009). Their second album, Celebration Rock (2012), was released to widespread critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone listing it as one of "The 10 Coolest Summer Albums of All Time", and Spin naming them 2012's Band of the Year. Japandroids toured heavily in support of both albums, gaining notoriety for their live performances and extensive international concert tours. Between 2009 and 2013, the band performed approximately 500 shows in 44 countries. Similar Artists: Titus Andronicus, The Hold Steady, The Replacements, Beach Slang, Cloud Nothings.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been following Japandroids since their inception and no matter where I see them play (club with 50 people at 1am or early afternoon at the Yeti Stage), they have never disappointed me and have left me wanting more. Even though I just saw them this past fall I am still excited to see them on the lineup, and barring any unforeseen circumstances (extreme conflicts) I will be front and center.

I could give Japandroids another spin, especially if someone did an artist of the day post for them. They just didn't grab me or strike me as very unique. I have been following Japandroids since their early days and I will gladly do a band profile for them when I have a bit of time. Maybe over the weekend. I can, at this moment, vouch for their live shows! Tonnes of energy, loud and tight. Good luck not spilling your beer during their set! I've seen them a number of times over the years in a number of venues (including the Yeti Stage) and they never disappoint. Their latest album is pretty decent, but not as solid as past ones. The songs translate better live, especially "Arc of Bar", which is truly an epic song.

Any potential overlap between The National and Slowdive kills me! What makes us think that Slowdive is on Sunday? Because their name is in White on the poster. Had to start somewhere. Fair enough. Carry on

The Melvins would be a stellar addition, but yeah, unlikely. They're playing Calgary but just like last time I will be out of town. Fuck.

The bass (guitar) in this song is unreal.

They also played it at least once last year, but it's still pretty rare I think. They played it in Vancouver in December and it was pretty damn special.

Turtleneck was definitely my favourite track off the new album, but mostly because it just sounds like a Nick Cave song. This is an interesting comparison and I never would have linked them until now! Thanks. I always think of Monster/ New Adventures era R.E.M. when this comes on. It's so great and I hope they play it live at The Gorge because they didn't play it when I saw them in Vancouver.

These older songs don't make it into the setlists very much these days, but their earlier albums seemed to capture more of the raw outbursts that personify their live shows than the more mature, almost Radiohead-y, work of their later albums. The older stuff is great!

That Pitchfork video is a great live show, but this is my go to when I want to hear The National live. This video will give you a great idea of what to expect as well...

Sled Island dropped their first lineup announcement for 2018 today: Not too shabby, but for me it's not worth buying a full pass, which means I will be bound for Sasquatch! I will probably still attend a couple of single shows, namely Mount Eerie. Hoping some more metal hits the next round. That's one thing I can usually rely on Sled for.

Holy shit, guys. Magic Fucking Sword. I know they've been talked about here a few times, but I just now got to listening to them this morning and holy shit. Somebody mentioned a comparison between them and John Carpenter and I think that's totally fair in the best way. Very 80s horror movie vibe, but dancy too. I dig it a lot. If we can't get the guys from Stranger Things, I think these guys will do quite nicely as a cheap replacement. I was listening to these guys this morning and it has such a viscious sound. I am assuming that this will be a dance tent group? Possible closer? I'm actually going camping this weekend, so this will be a great soundtrack for the nighttime drive through the snowy Foothills.

This song is crazy good! I’ve never heard of Czarface before, but I do enjoy me some MF DOOM on the right occasion

Someone tell me more about Anderson. Paak. He’s on my top ten based on reputation alone. I need a primer. This looks awesome and far different from what I thought he was.

Margo Price is a nice discovery. Good shitkicking honky-tonk via Third Man Records.
