I think if they really want to drive ticket sales, the first name on the poster needs to be someone who would otherwise be capable of selling out the Gorge on their own. Arcade Fire wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but I would take it since I've just recently started really listening to them and understanding what all the fuss is about. I would need help remembering from somebody else who has also been on here a while, but didn't Arcade Fire drop out of Sasquatch 2011 pretty late in the process due to a spat with Live Nation, who then booked Modest Mouse and had them "co-headline" or whatever with the Flaming Lips? Maybe that's resolved now because Arcade Fire played the Gorge behind Reflektor, but I had used that problem as a basis for assuming Arcade Fire wouldn't play Sasquatch again. Unrelated side note re: Bon Iver (one of my odds on favorites for a headliner spot). Who saw their headlining set last time or has seen the, since? What was the live show like? I really enjoy the music, but I worry about it being too mellow to keep Molly's kids' attention away from the lights and bass across the way. Of course, I also would have thought that about Sufjan Stevens and we all saw how that turned out... I really enjoyed Bon Iver's headlining set in 2012. The touring ensemble is different this time around, too, with some old songs getting new arrangements. I hardly understand kids these days, but I think "Skinny Love" was huge for a generation of indie rock fans and could draw people to the stage. I don't remember who Bon Iver played against in 2012, but the pit and hill seemed full to me.

They'll definitely play Coachella. If Sasquatch wants them, they'll play. The question is: does a four year absence promote them from sub-headliner to headliner? " On Hold" is really catchy, and their upcoming SNL appearance could give them a nice poop in popularity. Also, how does the xx at the top of the poster affect ticket sales after a year with low ticket sales?

Think Grandaddy might have a shot? They're in the UK through 3 April 2017 with a new album in March. I think it depends on if they double down with the core demographic of years past to improve ticket sales or if they embrace more of a pop demographic and try to attract new attendees. Return to the old days: Grandaddy could play Sasquatch; release a lineup with Lorde, the Chainsmokers, Capital Cities, etc at the top: Grandaddy will play Seattle. EDIT: Does not mean I think Capital Cities will ever headline Sasquatch.

Japandroids announced their 2017 tour with a Seattle date 03/18. This one actually hurt me a little. Those dates make them unlikely, but definitely not ruled out.

Excuse my ignorance, but does the Vancouver date make them really likely? I recognize with them not having any dates after Memorial Day weekend it's a toss up, but I didn't really feed into the research portion much last year so I'm curious if that's a common stop before or after the gorge when an artist tours the area. In years past, dates in Vancouver or Portland immediately before Sasquatch have been an indication of being billed for the festival. I was wrong last year thinking Brand New would be at Sasquatch because they had a Canadian tour that started in Vancouver immediately following Sasquatch, but most of our other guesses the past two years based on tour dates have been correct. EDIT: I only said the last two years because I've set up the Rumours/Confirmations thread the last two years, but this board has been accurately predicting artists playing the festival long before that.

Last year, we had our first reported confirmation on 11/4 and four more logical artists based on tour dates by 11/10. Hopefully we get some more announcements to help us speculate soon!

For what it's worth, Foxygen announced a 23-date spring North American tour wrapping mid-April with no dates in the Pacific Northwest.

Talked the dude from Preoccupations/Viet Cong tonight for a bit and he said he didn't like Sasquatch because he thought it was just a festival for EDM kids. That's disappointing for long-time, faithful Sasquatch attendees, but not very surprising considering they played the same night Major Lazer headlined.

Nick Cave's North American tour starts May 26th in Canada, and is skipping Seattle. Hmm. Sasquatch is (presumably) May 26-29. He has a show in Brooklyn on 5/26 and Montreal on 5/29. Skipping Seattle is weird, but I doubt he'd travel across the country for a Saturday or Sunday set at Sasquatch without a day of travel between his headlining shows.

Also how do you guys feel about a Saint Motel return after their set getting cancelled last year and the fact that they just released a new album today? I feel upset that it will probably happen because "My Type" is my least favorite song of the last few years.

I hate to be the one to say this, but the Flaming Lips' 2017 tour dates supporting their new album do not include anything on the west coast yet, and it will have been six years since their poorly-executed Soft Bulletin performance - that's a long gap for a band that previously took two and three years between Sasquatch appearances.

Sasquatch gets two artists usually from deck the hall ball in Seattle. This years lineup has The Head and the Heart, Empire of the Sun, Glass Animals, Jimmy Eat World, Phantogram, Band of Horses, COIN, and My Goodness. Last year we got Alabama Shakes and X Ambassadors from it, so should we expect maybe like Empire of the Sun, Band of Horses, The Head and the Heart, and Glass Animals as more likely due to them being vets that haven't been there recently and all having new music this year? poop: I feel like Cage the Elephant might be here. They have a new album coming out next month. They are playing Deck the Hall Ball in December though... Over the past 5 years, there has always been at least one artist who has played Sasquatch after playing DTHB the previous December: Foals (2014), The Lumineers (2013), Mumford & Sons (2012), Grouplove (2012), Sleigh Bells (2011), and Vampire Weekend (2010). And to update this list, Royal Blood played Sasquatch 2015 after DTHB 2014. As you said, Alabama Shakes and X Ambassadors played Sasquatch 2016 after DTHB 2015. For four of the previous five years, Sasquatch had only had one artist who played the previous DTHB. If Sasquatch becomes more mainstream, that number could definitely increase.
