My guess is that it will be mildly less enforced in the campground, but still "banned" in the venue. Mildly less enforced?? They don't enforce a god damn thing in the campgrounds. The last 4 years I've been there with a group of no less than 15 people partying loudly, drinking, and smoking weed until 3AM in the campgrounds and not had a single security guy say anything. They don't give a shit what happens in the campground. Only in the venue. And I don't think they'll allow any weed into the show, alcohol is legal, but you still can't bring any into the venue, hell, they even made me throw out my fucking cigarettes last year.

Hey, bud. I don't think anyone is calling you a hipster for "liking the music you enjoy listening to". I think it is because the pretentious manner you have expressed your opinions on music in general. All of the regulars on this board are music lovers and don't necessarily like everything the play on they radio but you will never see any of them write that a reason for not liking an artist is because they are too mainstream. You are talking with people that generally know what they are talking about in terms of music. Also, if you are working on the assumption that it is more likely to be able to see Prince then Com Truise multiple times, then I'd have to say you are mistaken. Jesus, this stared with me saying I prefer smaller acts over headliners. I just want to see as many acts at the festival as possible, so I listen to as many acts on the bill as possible beforehand to see which I would want to see live. I would see some smaller acts instead of a headliner if that smaller acts didn't tour near me and the headliner did, or if I had seen the headliner before. I live in Vancouver, Canada, and we often get skipped on world tours (Sigur Ros hasn't been to Van in 5 years) Seeing a lineup poster that has huge headliners doesn't sell the show for me, I wont go just because of them (unless they are insanely good), I go for the whole festival.

I think the new guy just needs to accept that he's the definition of a hipster. I wanna see his top 10 albums of all time first, we gotta be sure. I can tell you that my #1 is Dark Side Of The Moon

Actually, I don't even think hipsters would miss a chance to see Prince. What's with this guy? No, I would watch Prince. But I would see the end/beginning of Princes set, if someone else was playing at the same time. Like how I missed half of Tenacious D last year to see SBTRKT, which was a bad choice, but there are obviously going to be crossovers, and choices need to be made.

Im not gonna run my ass off to get a good spot watching Kanye or Prince. Sasquatch is not set up in a way that you have to run to get a good spot for a headliner. The main stage is huge and there is tons of room. Even down in the pit if you are along the back there is room. Nobody said that they only watch the headliners but of course we care who they are. Additionally, Kanye and Prince have never been there but you would be a fool to miss them. It seems like you see a band more for your own reputation than because you want to see them. Im just saying I wont miss a smaller act that I wouldn't usually get a chance to see, to see Kanye. If I wanted to see Kanye I would pay $100 to see him when he was in town. But if there was nothing else on then yes I would see his show. And I am only defending the reputation you're giving me for liking music that aother people have not heard of. And I also never said that I don't listen to mainstream music. I stated that I don't listen to song because it is mainstream, I listen to it because I like it. If someone shows me a song and I like it, I'll listen to it, I'm not going pretend I like it when I don't, just because everyone says it's super awesome. Does it make me a hipster to like the music I enjoy listening to?

No offense, Geno: But is hipster still a thing? You would know better than I do. I don't read reddit. It's definitely an overused word. People just use it as an insult for anyone who have interests that go against the mainstream nowadays. But this guy is the true kind of hipster. Someone who AVOIDS anything even remotely popular. Why the fuck would you brag about only seeing small bands at a music festival that you spent $300 on? Goddamn people love to hate eh? I said I preferred the smaller shows, never said I did not watch those headliner acts, its merely not what sells a lineup for me. I'll stay over at the banana shack or Yeti stage and watch the smaller acts, Im not gonna run my ass off to get a good spot watching Kanye or Prince. I do still watch the headliners, for instance, Massive Attack back in 2010 did blow my mind. I don't pay $300 to go to a fest and see only 5 big acts, I go for the full days to get as many show as possible. Is it a bad thing have a varied taste in music?

I prefer a ton of unknowns, well unknown to most. I'm dying to know which 'unknowns' you are referring to. You must certainly have had truly wearying amounts of time to seek them out in your 2.4 decades of exhausting life. I guess I mean the unknowns amongst my circle of friends, the bands that no-one had heard of before the lineup, except for me. My friends don't have very wide music tastes. From last year I would say; NobodyBeatsTheDrum, a band from Amsterdam who had a very interesting live show. Apparat, who I think should not have been in the Banana shack. Purity Ring, who were great. Com Truise Starfucker, also great. Don't Talk To The Cops! Tycho Awesome Tapes From Africa Beat Connection Here We Go Magic

I do not enjoy being in a tight crowd of people (that are so all so close to me that I get sweat from other people on me) just to get close to a headliner. So you hate fun. Hah. I don't find it fun when I am spending more of my time trying to keep myself from being pushed over than watching the show I payed to see. Don't get me wrong, I'll be in the crowd. Just not way up at the front getting crushed (I'm not a huge guy). I was pretty annoyed last year by all the high teenagers. I guess I'm getting old.

AND The Rolling Stones? Who the hell wants to see a group of leather hand-bags attempt to play songs that were popular 20 fucking years ago?? The Rolling Stones had their FIRST hits in the mid sixties which is steadily approaching fifty years ago so you really need to learn how to count. Never mind the fact that those songs ( Satisfaction, to name just one) are still well known and loved by a very large number of people. Hand bags? Yeah sure, but don't discredit the staying power of bands as popular as the Stones and their music.
Now, that being said, I would take a super strong midrange of bands over some over the top headliner any day. I'm thinking of Sasquatch 2010 specifically where the headliners were somewhat modest (MMJ, Massive Attack, Ween) and the midrange was amazing (Broken Social Scene, LCD Soundsystem, etc). That sounds a lot more enjoyable to me than a lackluster undercard and Muse or Prince or something.Ok Fine, more than 20 years ago. And yes, Sasquatch 2010 was indeed fantastic for this reason. There were many great bands on the bill that weren't necessarily huge acts. To me that makes a better festival, more acts to see throughout the four days, not just in the evening on the Main stage.

Fuck headliners indeed. I prefer a ton of unknowns, well unknown to most. The little guys I have discovered because of music festivals are some of the best shows I have seen in recent years. And Fuck Kanye West. AND The Rolling Stones? Who the hell wants to see a group of leather hand-bags attempt to play songs that were popular 20 fucking years ago?? You're trying way to hard to be hipster. Not even close. I merely appreciate good music that isn't being listened to by everybody. I do not listen to music because everyone else is listening to it. I love finding new artists among the lesser known people at festivals, you usually get a better show out of it, besides its not usually where all the little kids that are high on MDMA are flocking to. And I do not enjoy being in a tight crowd of people (that are so all so close to me that I get sweat from other people on me) just to get close to a headliner. I pay hundreds of dollars to go to these festivals to ENJOY my time there. And I guarantee I would not enjoy a Rolling Stones show, they are decades past their prime.
