Still have to do some research but for now I can see at least 15 that I won't be missing: Modest Mouse Kendrick Lamar Schoolboy Q Will Butler The Decemberists St. Vincent Gogol Bordello Jose Gonzalez Pete Davidson Ought The War On Drugs Jenny Lewis Royal Blood Run the Jewels Action Bronson
Well after taking some time to really let this sink in, I can honestly say I'm not disappointed in the lineup. Sure I'm disappointed that the two musicians I wanted to see the most (Bjork and NMH) didn't make the bill, but besides that I think that the lay out of the poster is what threw me off at first. We all knew Kendrick Lamar was a strong possibility, as well as Modest Mouse. There was talk of The Decemberists headlining as well. Robert Plant is definitely the one surprise act which Sasquatch always hands us each year. Move The Decemberists up on the poster, as well as a handful of other acts, and push Lana Del Rey down the poster a bit, below St.Vincent and a few others, and things start to look like a festival worthy of some praise. Kendrick, Modest Mouse, The Decemberists and Robert Plant, seem like decent and legit Sasquatch headliners to me. Not to mention a very exciting undercard! From Jenny Lewis to Will Butler, Pete Davidson is hysterical! And there is some some serious rap game this year as well. I'm not going to let time slots fool me into thinking that this lineup is less than worthy of Sasquatch. I'm all in for 2015... But still, r.i.p Bjorksquatch.
The Jesus and Mary Chain are playing Austin Psych Fest May 8-10th and then Vancouver @ The Vogue Theater May 13th. Haven't found any other dates yet but seems reasonable to consider them a possibility.
not sure if the "guess the line-up" thread is going to be a thing this year but my guess towards headliners (based on recent releases/upcoming releases, previous years at Sasquatch, bands that are doing festivals, etc.) are: Friday- Kendrick Lamar Saturday- Florence and the Machine Sunday- Modest Mouse Monday- Bjork ...of course Deadmau5 could easily be the Friday and MMJ the Sunday headliners too.
Mastodon was one of a small handful of metal requests I made to him. I'd love to see some more heavy music mixed in this year.
Unlocking the Truth would be a great heavy add. They played Coachella last year and although I wasn't there, the live stream of their set was awesome! The only line-up I've noticed them on this year is Bonnaroo (so far).
Austin Psych Fest (now called LEVITATION) has announced its lineup. It now runs May 8-10. Lineup includes:
The Flaming Lips Tame Impala The Jesus and Mary Chain Spiritualized Primal Scream The Black Angels Thee Oh Sees Mac DeMarco Melody's Echo Chamber Lightning Bolt A Place to Bury Strangers The Sword Earth Fuzz (Ty Segall & Friends) The Soft Moon Metz White Fence
and a lot more smaller bands. Judging by the dates and location I'd say we're sure to get at least a couple of these!
Oooh, if The Sword ends up being "the heavy band" next year I will be pleased as punch. Sadly, I think they are one of the least likely candidates on that list, but I would really be ok with that whole lineup.
Just the thought/mention of The Sword at Sasquatch has brought me out of board hibernation. Yes please! I would very much like this to happen.
Hidden Gem: Kithkin put on an amazing performance!
Favourite moment: I was front row at Rodriguez for a bit and caught a smile from him. I decided to move out from the crowd and saw my son sitting on a blanket with a girl he had met. Knowing my son chose to bring his Sasquatch crush to Rodriguez's set warmed my heart. I decided not to approach them and give them space. as I moved along I was greeted by Gramma, Stormy and a couple other kind folks. That set was filled with joy for me. It truly was an honour to see that performance.
