They will get cheaper. No one will pay $550+ for stubhub or anywhere else when LiveNation is selling ligit tickets at $550. This forces the scalper market to drop under the LiveNation price.

It is still scalping. They are making a profit on after market tickets. Actually it is not. These are first market tickets. Never been sold.

Look at what this does though. It keeps the scalpers at $550 or below. This is only 22 tickets and it forces all scalpers to drop their price to well below this price point. I don't think the goal was to sell a bunch of $550 tickets. I think the goal was to keep scalpers from selling $800 tickets. I say smart move LiveNation.

I was thinking about this the other day: what if a festival did the opposite of the typical pricing structure, and sold the most expensive tickets first, then slowly reduced prices until they sold out. Like, Coachella tickets starting at $800, they would probably sell out at like $550 - you would be gambling if you waited for them to get too low. I'm not saying this is a good idea, or an ethical idea, or practical, or suggesting it. I was just thinking of it and thought it would be a crazy scenario that would create some serious pandemonium. Burning Man has been playing with a version of this. Some tickets went early for about 180%, then they went down from there. Last year they had a combo pemium sale and lottery. It seems I recall the lottery allowed you to enter at three price points. If you entered at the higest, you were entered into all three price points, but they drew the lottery from the higest bidders first. Then they drew from the middle. If you won on the highest, you were out (you had tickets after all). Best chance to win: Bid for the highest tier. You got entered into all three rounds of drawing. Rumors were in the highest tier 50% got tickets and in lowest tier only 1 in 5 got tickets. Lesson for next year: Buy early. Buy often.

Better "platinum" than "unobtainium."

Well, at least we know the market rate. $550.00 for a GA ticket. There appear to be only 22 at this price right now.
I suspect the real value to this is not in primary sales, but in holding down the secondary market. If ticket prices on the secondary market are allowed to get too high it will drive up counterfeit tickets and secondary market flippers - those that buy tickets at a premium and re-sell them at an even higher premium.
And if you think about it, they sold tickets at $300, then $337, and now $550. Not scalping. Just market inflation.

But you have something here. You have a unique culture and a deep knowledge base that could be of real value to the event. It has its own entertaining elements that should be preserved. But if if there were a little more utility and a little less oppression, then it would be valuable to others and you could leverage that. Just an observation. CROWELL -- You're new here; do not roll up and start demanding that we change the fundamental nature of this board. ... Fuck blerg. ... Should I have done that? Perhaps not, but I categorically do not care. I have been drinking tonight. I suspect you have as well.

While we are on and off topic, one thing you might want to consider: There is a need for a Sasquatch! message board. Most of the major festivals have official or semi-official boards that help people attend and enjoy the events. These are marketing arms of the event. The people that manage the various boards are generally compensated in some manner (VIP passes / $$$ / etc.).
This board is currently the only option for Sasquatch!. If it is going to remain a dominant option it needs to improve its focus on utility. The personality and quips can be maintained, but either the focus is going to be on the event, or each other. I am not sure you can do both.
There are people from Sasquatch! that have looked in from time to time and have walked away because of excessive juvenile behavior. Maybe you like it that way. If so, great. Your product. You have kept it going for years.

Matt and Kim throw out uninflated balloons at their show and tell everyone to blow them up. They bounce around for about 5 minutes and it's all good fun then eventually they all pop. It's easy enough for the people on stage to co-ordinate something like that, but just being a dude in the crowd I think you would have a pretty tough time getting all of the beach balls inflated at once. I really don't think beach balls will last much longer than balloons so that might be a cheaper and easier option. Maybe an even better idea. But the trash level would be crazy with balloon crap everywhere. Of course I now have a vision of everyone in the upper bowl blowing up balloons and dropping them down the the main stage pit so deep that no one down there can see the show....

<<< Re-Boot >>> I am trying to Dr. Garbanzoure out what to print on the beach balls. My thoughts are ball in one color, and then this years logo with the boom-box-squatch. Maybe 100 24" balls each of 5 different color patterns. Red - Back / Yellow - Black / Tan - Black / White - Black / Light Green - Black. 500 total. But then there is the risk that as they go out, people will just deflate them and pocket them as free souvenirs. Thoughts? Real talk - 500 24" balls flying around won't be cool, it will be annoying. Think about when you're at a concert - a little inflatable ball drops near you, you maybe pick it up and throw it, and it falls again, and eventually just stays on the ground. But when there's a fucking raft with a dude in it, or a giant shark, or a huge beachball? or a beachball filled with confetti? Then you pay attention, and everyone is trying to get a hand on it, and that's fun. Don't waste your money on little beachballs. It's not quantity of inflatables, it's quality. Good arguments.

This is worth seeing for many reasons, two being:
1) Dharohar project has a fan base of three times larger than anyone else at Sasquatch this year and it is nice to see them help those Mumford boys out with some stage time.
2) Marcus Mumford really loves his work and you can tell. One of the best things about that band live is seeing how much they enjoy playing their songs.

I have extra tickets to A Silent Film at Miss. Studios; and Gold Fields at The Crystal. Both in PDX on Feb 25.
The label broke up the show and I can't be two places at the same time.
Please only take them if you actually intend to go.

I think it was the filming from Identity 2011 that made the film. Kaskade / Crystal Method / Pretty Lights.
