I've been checking out MGMT's live show on youtube after hearing from many sources they were terrible live and I've got to say... the lead singer can't sing worth crap. Lord... I'm happy listening to their excellent album but there's no way I'm wasting time watching them live. that made no sense, and why would you base your opinion off a shitty you tube video and what other people say? if everyone told you to jump off a bridge you probably would. If you think there album is excellent then give em a chance and take in to account they are still a pretty fresh band and it takes time to develop a really solid live sound that shit doesnt happen over night It wasn't like they were low quality. I found high quality vids and the dude grumbles through every song. He's got no range. I dig the music but why would I waste my time if there's someone else I'd love to see (maybe temper trap).

Just from looking quickly, I think Friday is going to have tons of conflicts. At least for me...... What's that? Whether to be hungover Saturday or not?

Tough to compare to other lineups because of the lack of star Power (as stated earlier). I still think 2006 was the strongest overall line-up but I'm more than happy this year. Sometimes you can't please everyone but I'm certainly pleased this year.

Who? Drive-By Truckers Where? White River Amphitheater, Auburn, WA When? 2006
Opened for Robert Randolph and The Black Crowes. I grew up on classic and southern rock and I was at that point in my college career where indie music was starting to infiltrate my everyday life. I fell instantly in love with the jams, the 3 fantastic guitars (ala Skynyrd), their humor (see Southern Rock Opera) and their aptness for the blues in general. They're missing the very talented Jason Isbell now, but I think that they've added a couple folks to the roster. If you even remotely enjoy southern rock you'll love these guys.
Who? Band of Horses Where? Bumbershoot, Seattle, WA When? 2008
I was surprised that they broke out a couple very bluesy tunes during the show but in general they're very similar to their recording, only with a lot of heart in the vocals. They were fantastic but having seen them I'd be inclined to see someone else if there was a serious conflict.
Who? Vampire Weekend Where? Capitol hill Block Party, Seattle, WA When? 2008
They've been covered here but i was incredibly entertained by their performance. I'm not the biggest VW fan but I'd be happy to see them again so long as there's no one else I'm dying to see.
Who? The Hold Steady Where? Capitol Hill Block Party, Seattle, WA When? 2008
Now here's a drinking band. Absolutely fun. Great musicians and far more electric live than on record. I'll be there almost certainly.
Lastly, my buddies saw Mayer Hawthorne at Bumbershoot last year while i was wandering around looking for an ATM to deposit a check (long story). Unfortunately i missed the set but they were ecstatic. Tons of funk, comedy and energy. I really hope to not miss MH this time.

Saturday and Monday are stacked. I'm really worried about severe conflicts those days. I may catch some comedy and smaller stages on Sunday (though LCD Soundsystem will be awesome).

nice I didn't even see Caribou before Them and the Temper Trap were pleasant surprises for me. I thought the TT were going to be in Europe. Happy they'll make the trek back.

Ween seems like a second stage headliner to me. Weird...
not that I'm disappointed... this year's lineup feels like an experiment to me though. If it fails in terms of popular recognition, it'll fail hard. But if the money they're saving works out for them, then more power to 'em. The festival business is very tough. Especially when you only expect a max audience of around 20,000 people.

By the way did anyone notice that the band dates are up on the Sasquatch website? Pavement and Massive Attack both play Sunday. Ween does not seem like a headliner. Even for Monday... could be another artist will be pushing their way in? The overall depth on Monday is fantastic though. I hope the Temper Trap doesn't conflict with anyone I really want to see.

I was shocked by the lack of big headliners but I'm thrilled with the depth and quality of the artists. My Morning Jacket is going to be insane. Not to mention The Temper Trap, The National, Drive-By Truckers, She & Him (Zooey how I love thee) and the Hold Steady, among many others. I was taken aback by the lack of a NIN/Beck size group but upon reflection I'm going to be crazy busy and potentially stuck with serious conflicts. I do wonder how tough it will be for them to sell the show out without any marquee names. I wonder if they're announcing headliners closer to another jump in ticket prices? I wouldn't care and I'm certainly not holding my breath but unique marketing/business techniques like that are quite plausible in an economy like this where discretionary income in held close to the chest. I'm just glad I bought my tickets this past weekend when they were super cheap. man My Morning Jacket ;D ;D ;D Agreed, love the lineup but do envison live nation struggling to sell tickets outside of the indie and electronic fans and the people that go every year regardless of lineup. All three of these headliners would struggle to draw 5K people to their own show in almost any city in North America. There are a whole lot of bands here that your average punter has never even heard of (including headliners). It will reduce the bro numbers, but bros = $ to Live Nation. I'm wondering if that may force their hands to go out and get a bigger name (Soundgarden) to help sell remaining tickets at a later date. I'm thinking Soundgarden is Bumbershoot bound. I'd love the Arcade Fire to hit up a night but I don't think that's particularly likely. Like I said I'm fine with the line-up but interested to see what happens next.

hey guys i bet soundgarden is playing. hah. it was stated a while back that they're "working on" soundgarden. they very well could be a late addition. don't count them out until we get through march and april in my opinion. Travis from Ear Candy mentioned that he spoke to a Sasquatch official that said there was nothing to that rumor. I'd love for them to be lying but I imagine they'd say it was "just a rumor" if it was still being worked on.

I'd buy this as well. When bands are touring together, they do tend to get paired. They did it with REM, Modest Mouse and the National two years ago I believe. and NIN+JA last year, the Cure + 65daysofstatic the year before. very likely to see more pairs this year. NIN and Bauhaus was another example

The Wailin Jennys would be a great addition this year. Manu Chao, Q-Tip, Beirut, Michael Franti is due to return, The Black Lips, King Kahn & BBQ and The Almighty Defenders. Wouldn't mind a few of these acts. Funny the Wailin' Jennys will be playing Kent, WA in April. I think they're doing other NW shows too. Doubt they'd hit Sasquatch but it's possible.

The National and BSS just don't seem like sub-headliners to me but I could be wrong i suppose... past years have been Queens of the Stone Age, Modest Mouse and Yeah Yeah yeahs among others. Granted that a select few but still...

On another note, is anyone going tomorrow night, who maybe uses twitter or texting or could post from the event? I imagine someone from earcandy will be there, but the more info you have coming in the better, right? I think Travis from Ear Candy will have it pretty much covered... SasquatchTweet will probably post info too. I'll be there but my phone doesn't tweet.

You guys know that The Postal Service is two people, right? We have no clue where Jimmy Tamborello is going to be festival weekend and I am pretty sure he's working on another project right now. They also said that they're not doing any more Postal Service stuff. I know but since everyone's throwing out all kinds of BS, why not me? ;D

What about Elvis Costello? His tour ends on May 29 In Dallas, i think he would be considred a headliner if he played with the imposters( which he does a couple of Dates with on his tour.) I just think it is Funny, he does not have dates for Vancouver, yet he lives there, and nothing is scheduled for the PNW. That's an interesting thought. He played solo at Bumbershoot a few years back and really surprised me with his stage presence. I wasn't a huge fan before hand but I've grown to very much like him. I doubt it'll come to fruition but he'd fill the REM, Cure, 80s-alternative throwback quota. On petty... unless they producers go in a shockingly different direction I can't see him playing (as awesome as it would be). Could you imagine the number of classic rock onlys showing up for Petty and annoyed with all of these new-fangled unknown bands? I wish the NW had it's own Bonnaroo but there's a reason that show's in Tennessee... we just don't have the culture to support such a show. The indie extravaganza is more up our scene w/ Bumbershoot filling in for the smaller-scale mixed genre/arts festival w/ the pop acts.
