yeah no
uh what
I mean, at the end of the day I'm just bitchin', and I don't mean to take away from the fact there's some great bands on the lineup and that more are to be announced - but yeah, disappointing use of resources. Instead of building a strong lineup top to bottom, one that's keeping in with the tone of previous incarnations of the festival, we're seeing extremely expensive headliners and a meh undercard. Not to mention that one of those headliners is undoubtedly past his prime, and another is a complete shift away from the usual lineup the festival presents. At least in my view.
waaah waah waah, essentially.
/begins fantasizing about Pemberton lineup that just shakes the shit outta squamsquam's

What's the point of even announcing the lineup when half is yet to come? They did theirs before Sasquatch and both Squatches happen earlier than Squamish for eff's sake.
The sad part is, this isn't an underwhelming lineup for a lot of people. There's gonna be so much teenage girl at this festival it ain't even funny.

Yup. I was pretty stoked in the direction the Fest was heading given last year's lineup but it seems to have middled out into a Billboard type amalgamation. Bruno Mars as a headliner is just....unforgivable.
To be fair, there's about seven or eight acts I'd be happy to see, but I'll probably end up seeing half of those at Sasquatch. Arctic Monkeys just did two sold out nights in Vancouver in December, Foster the People is playing Deer Lake in May...hopefully Danny Brown can make it over the border. I'll still probably get tickets because of Arcade Fire. Eminem would be nice simply because he's a legend but sitting through his new shit amidst the crowd this lineup will bring in is gonna blow.
Pressure's on Pemberton to step up the BC festival game...and as long as it's closer to Hangout's lineup than Squamish's I'll be happy.

By my count, there were 8 crossovers last year between Prima and Squatch - woulda been 9 if Solange had ended up playing. Might be a couple more this year, with the two festivals and all. I'm thinking: One of The National/Queens as a headliner. I said before that i wouldn't expect the National to headline since they confirmed via email, but I think I underestimated how popular they were/are. Mogwai Haim Darkside Dum Dum Girls Real Estate Blood Orange Cloud Nothings

I'd be a little bummed if it turned out I had pre-ordered tickets to the first annual Angstsquatch. ...and yet, so adequately prepared.

I would be so sad if a night ended with Foster the People. I think I would pump my kicks back to the campground early that night. Yeah...a bit of a bummer with this one, but not really unexpected. Considering the throng they had in 2011, they're definitely subheading the main stage...might even close out the Bigfoot ala Vampire Weekend last year. Their hits would be fun enough to dance to I guess, but you just know that crowd is gonna be the worst of the festival. so...much...neon.... The Tycho rumblings get me stoked as all hell. He/they had a fantastic set in 2012. Can't say I've listened much to Foals or Cage the Elephant. Suppose I'll have to rectify that, those dates are mighty suggestive.

The National (headliner, July) The National - Headliner - July Honestly, I think the National headlining is completely plausible, except for the fact that they were confirmed via gabfrab's emails. I just don't see a headliner for a festival revealing that kind of information in such an offhand way.

Queens of the Stone Age (headliner, May) The Knife (headliner, May) The Flaming Lips (headliner, May) Neutral Milk Hotel (headliner, July) Outkast (headliner, July) Skrillex (headliner, July) If this happens I'll be sad, 5/6 of those are at Coachella. Good point. But it's not inconceivable. Last year the only exclusives were Macklemore and Mumford...but yeah, hopefully Snacks pulls out the big guns with exclusivity. Considering, yknow, he went to the trouble of creating another festival and all. It's things like that which make me flip over to the Pearl Jam theory...who, incidentally, have no scheduled North American dates for 2014 as of yet.

You can go ahead and make Deltron 3030 a confirmed Julysquatch appearance, as the email so generously provided indicated they'd be playing the 5th.
Alrighty.
Queens of the Stone Age (headliner, May) The Knife (headliner, May) The Flaming Lips (headliner, May) Neutral Milk Hotel (headliner, July) Outkast (headliner, July) Skrillex (headliner, July) HAIM (May) City and Colour (May) The National (May) MGMT Broken Bells Lorde Chance the Rapper Big Business Beach House Sleigh Bells Mogwai (May) The War on Drugs (July) Foster the People Titus Andronicus Deafheaven (May) BADBADNOTGOOD Disclosure Darkside Fuck Buttons (May) James Blake Flatbush Zombies Young the Giant
Really couldn't decide between Queens of the Stone Age and Pearl Jam. But I think they're both a likely straight-up rock headliner.
How do you make up for cake-crashing Wayne's diatribes in 2011? Throw the motherfucker a headlining sized bone in 2014. I don't know why this has never really occurred to me before. Providing the Snacks/Coyne relationship isn't totally ruined, the Flamers would be a pretty safe-yet-satisfying choice to headline. And it's really the only place they could be on the lineup after opening for MM in 2011.
Something that bugs me is that Broken Bells are on the second line of the Coachella lineup. Traditionally, these acts can and have headlined Sasquatch (as with Postal Service and Sigur Ros last year.) I know I'd be mighty disappointed if a top spot was given to Broken Bells...
Probably'll tweak this a couple times in the next few weeks. I think I'm realizing that the choice between May and July probably won't be as clear cut as I'm hoping it'll be. Tears will likely be shed.

On a related note, I feel like Sandrider is a very real possibility this year. No real evidence for it, just a strong feeling that they will end up in a way too early slot on the Bigfoot stage like Red Fang last year. I approve of your feeling. I thought Godhead was one of the more underrated metal albums of 2013. In a similar vein would be Big Business. Their latest came out in October and was quite tight, definitely a step up from Mind the Drift, in my opinion. I saw Cody play with Melvins in August and the man is balls-to-the-wall insane. Somebody mentioned the Sword a while back. They have Portland/Seattle dates in March, so maybe a Julysquatch appearance? And, as previously stated, I'd cream my slim fit hipster pants if Deafheaven showed up.

Santa Clause conjecture: The War on Drugs announced a new album and tour, and they're coming through Portland, Seattle and Vancouver in late March.
Similarly, Malkmus and the Jicks do the West Coast in mid April.
